Great job for a first go! I would paint the eyes though!

Except that the picture is many times actual size. No need to paint eyes on the small stuff really. In fact, I think that is a mistake some people make and then they end up with those bug-eyed figures.

I agree with this.unless you have a miniature with a VERY well sculpted face and the skill to create display quality paintjobs, then if just isn't worth the time for the end result in my view.

Looks great for a first paintjob.

Yeah, it's fine! 25 mm is just about the borderline for needing to paint eyes, so fudging it on 28mm is fine too in many cases. Plus, poorly painted eyes usually look comically bad and really detract from a figure - far more so than if you don't paint the eyes (which only makes 'em look a little "squinty").

I didn't paint eyes for a long time, until I had better brushes and more confidence in what I was doing so that it would look right.

You guys have a good point regarding scale, but look at the figure again.  It's looking up....  sort of needs eyes for this one... :D

It's looking up....

yes, it's a dwarf.... ;)

not painting eyes either - I don't game with a magnifying glass and I don't sell painted miniatures, thus there is no need to display my painting technique....

Yeah, it'd end up irritating me too much to leave it undone....

That is a nicely done mini...far superior to my early efforts. You've got a good, strong choice of colors & your brushwork is EXCELLENT. Now for critique: The Little Guy deserves some attention to his base & he would look better with eyes. Keep up the GOOD WORK!

Looks great for a first paintjob.

Thanks for all the kinds words everyone!, but I fear I may have been misconstrued.  ::)

Just to be clear - I've been painting models from other genres of the 'hobby' for years - this is just my first Fantasy miniature. Its the first time I've worked with really bold & vibrant colours. In fact, its the first time I've really strayed from drab green and brown.

On the topic of eyes, I'm not a fan on anything below 40mm scale myself. Unless they're done far better than I can do them I've always found eyes to look hideously bulbous.

...The Little Guy deserves some attention to his base...

That photo shows the model with just the base colour blocked in. I've since chiselled off the awful looking polyfilla and gone to town with railway flock to create something that, I hope, will not look completely unlike an area of unkempt grassland.

I'd hoped to post some 'updated' photos by now, but sadly my camera is currently.....drying out..... :-[

Nice work! The eyes on Mithril miniatures are really darn hard to paint. There's not much guidance on the model.

The best paintjobs i've ever seen on Mithril miniatures were done by Richard Abbott- and he basically ignored the eyes too:
