« on: 13 December 2013, 09:44:01 AM »
Hello

I'd like to know where  i can find a beautiful desert gaming mat for my post apo project.

Something like the Citadel Battle Mat in a desert version would be great...that's this kind of product I'm looking for

If you have any link, shop or else in mind, let me know

Cheers

That would be my suggestion as well. I have one and I'm very happy with it.

If you have a shop that sells woodland scenics products you could look at their vinyl mats. There are a few for sale on
EBAY (US) for $23 (50x100)

Suede cloth or upholstery fabric in a suitable color and texture. I have four or five types I've bought over the years.  Look in the clearance or remnant sections for bargains.

Do not get Woodland Scenics unless you are glueing it down, otherwise the 'sand' finish tends to come off. It is like a rough sandpaper in texture and does not stick to the vinyl well. If you tend to knock your figures over when they are dead then I suspect it could also damage the paint job as it is so rough. Their green mats are excellent.

I had an old vinyl GW mat sitting doing nothing and just painted it 'desert', thus it does not crack and I can roll it up and put it away.

I'd just buy a tan-coloured piece of felt from the department store, much cheaper and it can be spray-painted if you wish to do so. Thr Hotz mats are nothing different safe for the optional fabric binder which I honestly don't see the point of (I had one).

Thats what me and my friend did for our Sudan games. Got a 6 x 12 for about $15/$20 from the local fabric store with a coupon. We just need to take a spray gun to it with different shades of tan/khaki/brown to differ the color. Once you start putting terrian and figures on the board you don't notice the material. And if the mini gets knocked over he falls on nice, soft felt.

I plan to do it with snow and maybe some woodland games.
