New Camera test batch One (Batch Two- 2 Jan.)
« on: December 27, 2013, 07:13:35 PM »
In light of my buddy's phone taking better pix than my old Sony, my wife blessed me with a new Fuji. So now I need to improve my painting and my photography.

Nice paintwork, but you need more light I think for the photos.

Lucky Duck.

Congrats on the new camera.

Thanks.
No, no tripod.
Someone on TMP suggested low-lumen 'footlights' to illuminate the front/underside of the figs. I'll pick up a small LED task light and see if that makes a difference.

Heya Den,

Couple of things, either buy a tripod or use your timer.

Your slight blurring will come in Macro from shooting by hand. Try Photojojo for small (6") tripods like the Gorillapod.

Set a 5 sec timer so you can stand back from the camera. This should help the slight blurring. :)

Models look great!

I'll admit I'm not very good myself about using a tripod for my snapshots of WIPs or even my casual "what I painted today" shots but I use a DSLR so I can control all my settings to compensate for that. (somewhat anyway)
A cheepo tripod and some simple lights will make your shots out of the camera much sharper and make things easier for you in whatever post processing program you use.  Also check your white balance and make sure it matches you lighting.  Using your presets should be okay and you might not be able to make a custom white balance anyway but don't trust the camera on auto if you have any other choice.

Thanks, fellas. *scribbles notes*

Don't think a tripod will work in my current set-up, and a separate photog station is more work than I want to do right now. (I'm steeling myself for a New Year Inventory/Clean-up) I'll try the footlights/timer with the next completed batch of figs however.

Thanks again and happy new year.

No worries man. Remember the Gorillapod is only about 6" tall... I've used it in terrain, on gaming tables and all over. It fits the standard threading on any point and click or DSLR camera.

Photojojo also sells a tripod adapter for Smartphones... as well as Macro lenses. I've used my iPhone more than once with such a setup to get very decent photos!

Some nice colour schemes there. I especially like the blue uniform and pink hair on Ekaterina.
