Bitbox to Mordheim warbands...
« on: December 29, 2013, 09:05:03 PM »
Hi im looking for some Minotaurs that fit the cool vibe of the Realms of Chaos artwork.
Most minotaurs i have come across are boring or goofy...

I have 3 different Rackham minotaurs who are awesome but dont really fit my Perry beastmen...

They should fit with these:

Be mindful of the prayers you send
Pray hard but pray with care
For the tears that you are crying now
Are just your answered prayers

You can try tracking down some old Realms of Chaos era citadel minotaurs on ebay, they would be perfect,
other than that how about the oterworld minotaurs:

Coincidence strikes - I just finished a Harlequin Minotaur which had been lying around since '95. No pictures yet, but I hope to put some up tomorrow.

The figures are still available from Black Tree Designs:

http://www.blacktreedesign.com/europe/home.php?cat=2393&sort=orderby&sort_direction=0&page=2

Now, the usual caveats for ordering from BTD should apply; therefore, I'd like to mention some more specific issues with this figure, and possibly the others, too.

The figure has a very solid, integral base attached to its hooves. It was about 15mm x 40mm, and about 2-3mm thick. I removed most of it in a lengthy, curse-laden process to mount my figure on a 40mm round base.

The overall sculpt is clear enough, if a bit soft - not exactly the best premise if you like to work with washes. I built up the skintones in layers.

The pose on my specific figure (Minotaur Lord HM1119) is rather stiff. I really like the "Gladiator" (very Minathon, IMHO, and the others look decent enough, too). The "Warrior" does not seem to have an integral base.

Sizewise, the Lord stands ca. 55mm tall (bottom of base to tip of horn). I assume the others are similarly sized. As said, I bought mine almost 20 years ago; if the casting is good, it is a decent enough figure, although I am not exactly sure I find the price (10.79€ on their page) justified these days. Stylewise, it works out OK next to my Heartbreaker and Four A goblins and my ex-Grenadier barbarians.

Apart from the pose and (current) price, it's an OK, but not exciting figure. The others look a bit rougher in sculpt, but more dynamic in pose.

Here you go:

Just realized that there isn't a figure in the pic to compare sizes. Sorry about that, I'll snap some more later today but I've got to run some errands now. The figure measures about 55mm, 58-60 with the plastic 40mm base I've mounted it on and some remainder of the integral base hidden in the texturing.

Not a bad figure, but rather boring in pose.

those black tree ones look alright and it sure looks they paint up nicely, it's just a shame they all have hooves instead of proper feet

Agreed, the one on the far right in your picture is my all-time favorite miniature released by GW.

Try to find the old Rackham Fomor, who look more like actual minotaurs and look good in proportion wtih the Perry Gor.
Rebel Mini's has a great Greek minotaur.

Black Hat has a bull headed demon thing in their Chinese Myth range.

I always wanted to use the old Verminlord demon. A Perry sculpt from the same era as their beastmen. Basically a minotaur with a rat's tail. Probably costs a lot these days.
If you don't believe in lead, you're already dead.

Truth be told I just got one of the old verminlords cheap recently... still in the process of loosing its thick heavyhanded paintjob :)

Am using him as is so did not think to use it as minotaur... silly me  ;D
