Draft Dino Wrangling rules - Please comment! EDITED 09/01
« on: 08 January 2014, 03:34:28 PM »
Hi Chaps

First draft of some Dino Wrangling rules (attached below) to go with my budget Dino models. I'll be testing these out tonight and will write up some form of AAR later however I'd appreciate some comments from the IHMN community.

Pics of said Dino's on my blog (as usual) - http://offtclub.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/2014-resolutions-and-three-kings-of.html

I like them - but you should put in more behaviour rules-

Herbivores-
Herbivores will always flee carnivore dinosaurs if they see them - but will tend to move towards their own kind to form herds.  Once in a herd, if one of them is spooked - they will flee as a herd.

Spooking herbivores - generally they won't recognise humans as a threat, just be wary of them.  If a human makes loud noises (shoots) or injures a dinosaur (any dinosaur) they will spook.

Carnivores-
Will hunt herbivore dinosaurs as a last resort (as they're the hardest to bring down) - humans are much easier.  Will go for nearest human.  If going after dinosaurs, may work as a team with other carnivores of the same species, otherwise will view all other carnivores as rivals.

All dinosaurs-
Will defend young if young is unable to flee.

Methinks that you haven't met any aggressive herbivores Curufea. When lions approach water Buffalo or Rhino you don't get fleeing, you get charging.

I'd expect armed herbivorous dinosaurs like Triceratops and Stegosaurus to be far more aggressive in their reaction to predators.

Thanks for the input Curufea, I've incorporated some of the herbivore bit into how the Veggiesaur moves. I'm considering doing another version as Dino Racing and think that your behaviour ideas would work really well there. It'd certainly be chaotic ;D

Maybe an aggressive stat - just used to work out programmed/instinctive behaviour?  That way you could cover the aggressive and the passive herbivores (and carnivores).
