Pirates, Ships, Terrain Build
« on: January 08, 2014, 10:59:45 PM »
Hi Guys,

I am new to the forum, I found you all by seeing pictures of "Sinewgrab's" great mega blok pirate ship conversions.  I will be posting pictures soon but I thought I would post my next big project and ask for any advice you all might have.

I am working on 3 staged terrain board, 1. Docks, 2. Open Ocean, 3. Underwater Temple.

I won a huge lot of 3 mega bloks ships for $61 which i will be converting.

I will also be collecting any painted or unpainted Pirates, Water Creatures, or fun terrain pieces.

The goal of all this is for a High level Pathfinder campaign reaching its finally through a large planned out end adventure to traverse a great ocean and eventually reach an ancient temple and fight Cthulhu which will be represented by the Huge Horrorclix Cthulhu Miniature.

The best part is this is all unaware to the players.

Any advice or cool tutorials on any of the above notes would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the LAF! I'm sure that once you show us some WIP pics, much advice and well wishes will be forthcoming. I don't think you can go past Sinewgrab's tutorial for the ships. There are lots of other great build threads on here too for fantasy terrain—have a poke around and you'll find some great stuff like this and this and this and this and even this.

Hi there...

I had a go at building a pirate themed game complete with port, town, coast, sea, palm trees etc...it took over 6 months but its all up on the blog

If my poor efforts inspire fantastic...
Head over to my blog at www.shedwars.blogspot.com and hit the pirates tab

We might even complete the second game this year when Capain Juan de Rection will get his come uppance !

Hi and welcome to the forums. For the underwater temple portions of your campaign, I suggest doing a search here on the forums for "Deep Wars" as there is at least one excellent thread with plenty of cool underwater scenery.

hope this helps http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=62664.0

Wow thanks, this is close to my plan, my goal will be much more of everything you did here that will be spread out throughout a large campaign.  Can't wait to start showing some pics, I just got the 3 ships sorted out of the mounds of pieces i received.  Got 99% of all 3 ships pieces, and only a few damages mainly to masts.

I plan to pick up 2 more tools in the next couple weeks and start breaking the ships down and building them back up.  Also will have pirates on order, standard, oriental themed, and navy military.

Combine this with the Open ocean board and movable island terrain in the works and stage 1 will be done in next month.  Hopefully pictures to follow soon.

It sounds like you are going to get into an age of sail Cthulhu adventure, therefore some inspiration:

The rigging was done by hand from threads using an instruction that came with the kit.

This is what I am aiming at:

I am trying to make sails of paper towels. The edges are folded and stiffened with white glue.

The sewing of the soft tissue is very difficult... :banghead:

Fixed with superglue:

Attached and fixed the sails last night (sorry for the poor light):

I painted the canvas and am quite satisfied with how the paper tissue turned into furled sails:

And here she comes
