« on: 10 January 2014, 03:06:03 AM »
I guess no one saw this on David's (aka Dwartist) blog?

http://dwartist.blogspot.pt/2014/01/wip-khurasan-sabre-ltmed-tank.html

2014 is starting well - a sci-fi tank in 28mm!

PS - David I know that you usually post your work here but I couldn't help it!

Well, I am glad I am getting out of this size figures - I suspect three or four of them would totally blow my gaming budget with the wife going part time...   :o

Gracias,

Glenn

If you look at the blog you can see it is not quite as large as the big APC they have in 28mm.  I bet the price will be similar.  I'm looking to get three or four but I will likely have to spread the purchasing out quite a bit.

I am always amazed how fast Khurasan can release great minis, and that without animal testing and Kichstarters!  ;) ;)

Great job!

Oh my... That's a lovely hunk of resin.

I want one, but tanks so dominate 28mm skirmishes, they end up as terrain or a mission objective.

Great job!

No skwerlz were hurt in the making of this model, well, not many, erm, ok just a few but not seriously, hang on ok perhaps two or three skwerlz were killed in the making of this model.

Kickstarter (which my iPhone just insisted is actually "Kicks tarter" so I had to correct it back) would really be the perfect thing for this kind of venture.  Unfortunately two things get in the way:

1) I'm too lazy

2) kickstarter (iPhone makes same unhelpful suggestion!) has been warped into a way for middle size companies to make large company size sales on miniatures. People have developed expectations of miniature releases as a result (where are the freebies? Where are the stretch goals? Where are the three page rules that go with the models?) which I just would not be able to deliver.  I do this part time, nights and weekends, and use vendors for everything but order fulfillment, so my overhead is very high.  I've seen small companies (even guys who sculpt themselves) kamikaze trying to match the kickstarters of the medium size companies.

If I did one, it would be, oi, here's a tank. Commit to buy one, and if I get 49 other commitments, you'll get charged and then get the kit in a little box. No dancing girls, no fancy illustrated box, no rules (such as they are).  And I just don't think it would fly in the environment that's been established. So all I would do is spend a lot of time and effort putting together a kickstarter that might fail, tarnishing the reputation of my business.

So I soldier on without KS--at least for now. :-)

Highly appreciated, real companies risk their own money!

I appreciate the compliment, but what I actually meant to say is the opposite -- it's real companies that are using kickstarter!  Dodgy part-time chaps like me, who would really benefit from it, can't really use it now because of the way the market has developed -- it's the real companies who are using it as a marketing device, to up sales.  They take a hit in profits but that is more than compensated for by the volume of sales.

I shouldn't say can't use it now, that's a bit dogmatic, as I've seen a few part timers run successful kickstarters.  I haven't completely ruled it out, but for now I am quite leery of it.

At last someone stays sane. You are my new hero.

How easy will it be to remove/replace the cannon? I like the rest of the tank, but I would like to replace the cannon for a more traditional one.
Far less active than I used to...

It's not part of the turret -- it is a separate piece.  I don't know if that answers your question or not.  The cannon is actually a round barrel, but it is inside a square sheath.

If this was a sufficient "warping" of the intent of the KS system I would think that the operators/owners of KS would have stopped it early on.  Therefore it must meet with the approval of the KS system owners/operators.

While I do think it violates the implied spirit (as I initially understood the whole operation, which means nothing I am sure,) of the system either:

1) The KS people realized that they were "had" by the words they wrote/used and decided to ride the wave instead of fighting the events caused by the Law of Unintended Consequences

Or

2) they saw $$$ signs

I think the actions of the KS people shows that these actions are acceptable in their view.

I admit I was surprised by Reaper using KS mechanisms for their projects but it appears to have the approval of both KS owners/controllers and the users of KS.

Gracias,

Glenn

If you can access my KS participation (I have no idea if you can) I think you will see that I have chosen to support individuals on KS but since I doubt there is in reality more than one miniatures game company that can justifiably be called large that should been expected (or was intended) to happen sooner rather than later.
