How'd you spend your weekend?
« on: 19 January 2014, 08:06:51 PM »
I attended Siege of Augusta this weekend for some gamin' and fellowship.  I hosted a pick-up game of Shoot N' Skedaddle Friday night, running the Siege of San Augustin (who doesn't love puns...).

I only snapped one picture toward the end of the game:

A Lawmen Judge finds himself surrounded by four Outlaws (one of whom is holding a hostage).  The Judge is wounded, shocked, and out of ammo.  The game ended in a draw when we ran out of time...

Then Saturday night some buddies of mine hosted a game of SnS and I was invited to play.  We had a good time.  Using their gigantic adobe cityscape.  The scenario?  The author of some piddly Old West game was due to be hanged by the neck until dead.  Me!?

The big beautiful table (something like 8' or 10' by 5').

We each had a main character a sidekick.  I...lucked out on my main character!

The questionable Mr. Oscar fit to be hung.  My buddies actually painted up a miniature in my likeness without telling me! (and these are buddies I only see twice a year!)

Some folks crowding around for the upcoming spectacle.

What ended up happening was a rather wild table-wide gunfight.  Mr. Oscar was being dragged toward the gallows, kicking and screaming.  The Lawmen decided to knock me unconscious (I struggled so much I managed to keep them from moving much at all!).  Right as I was shot down the character dragging Mr. Oscar to the gallows, a Trail Boss galloped in, lasso'ed him and started dragging him away!  The Trail Boss, being the master horseman he was, galloped straight up onto the gallows! (Mr. Oscar was lucky with his rolling and didn't suffer injury while being dragged!).

He was strung up, and they dropped the platform.  Mr. Oscar was kicking and fighting the whole time.  As the Outlaws closed in, the Lawmen decided that "hung from the neck until dead" didn't mention anything about bullets expediting the process.  The Trail Boss fired a round into Mr. Oscar...wounding him.  A moment later the "mended" card was drawn and we removed the wound!  Not to be outdone, the Lawmen's Judge ran up and popped another pistol round into Mr. Oscar wounding him again!

The Drifter (me) used three activations, almost in a row, to fire and snap the rope holding Mr. Oscar.  He fell to the ground, possibly dead?  The scenario ended when were unable to free him prior to the end of that turn...so Mr. Oscar was pronounced dead by the doctor...or was he?

(BEGIN HEAVY MUSICAL INTRIGUE!)

The last few moments of Mr. Oscar's life. (Possibly)

So, was anyone else abducted...knocked unconscious, dragged through town by a horse...hung...shot....shot again, then dropped from a gallows?  Apparently I'm a lot tougher than I look!  lol

Looks like a pleasant weekend.  That Adobe town has a decidedly Middle Eastern look to it though.
I spent my weekend painting up seated drivers from Knuckleduster for my wheeled transportation. Also assembled and painted 9 Perry ACW cavalry as stand in Cowboys.

Yep, the town is a slew of random adobe/arabic stuff.  They set it up and then run 3-4 different games on it.  They just swap out some terrain features etc.  Means they can run the table all day with various games.  A kind of "student of all, master of none" approach.  It is primarily for a gigantic medieval Spanish raiding game they run which is fabulous.

Looks like Siege was a good show (as usual). Wish I could have made it.

What I did this weekend was run the typical weekly errands (grocery shopping and stuff), fix the fluorescent light fixture in the kitchen, bring a load of hay from the storage area up to the front pasture for the week, ride the motorcycle (a little chilly out!), and play the new edition of Battlelore with my daughter (just the learning scenario for our first game).  Still to do tomorrow on my 'day off' is take the van to get serviced and put a couple new tires on it, medicate the hoofs on two of the horses, and maybe rake some leaves.

I looked over the new Battle Lore at SOA actually...I was a bit disappointed.  I really liked the old version, and while the boards and gameplay are probably the same, I'm not a big fan of the new miniatures (Rune Quest or Rune Forge inspired or whatever?).

Is it still the same solid game mechanics, or did anything major change? I could probably easily swap in some miniatures :D

Great stuff, Elbows.
 8)

I love the fact that made a figure of Mr. Oscar special, like.
Wonderful!
 :-*

Gotta say that that is one immense adobe town.
You are right, they are so versatile.
I intend to build my own eventually.
I may start by adding a few adobe buildings to my own OW town as a head start.
 ;)

As for what I did this weekend: The usual chores that a weekend brings...but I did manage to finish another wagon for the Creek.... ;)

Another thing to mention on the town is that most of the domed roofs can be inverted...we were just lazy, and didn't bother.  They have flat roof tops on the other sides, so you can switch the look pretty quick.   lol

Well, I painted minis, but that game looks like a lot more fun!

What a beauty of a game Elbows. Who needs enemies when you have friends like that eh? ;) lol

I finished some black scorpion figures, and base coated my western $15 plastic trains. And watched a bit of deadwood season 2.

Cheers

My bad on the set change! I was supposed to pull the palm trees and remove the more Arab looking buildings like the coffee shop and customs house.  unfortunately, I got distracted by a really cool gladiator game.   In the city wide shot you can even see some camels, that should have been boxed up!   :o

I suppose I should mention Sr. Walter and I did find a few moments to play a rather excellent round of Mr. Furt's Blood on the Sands.  My newly painted Myrmillo won, but only barely because the Thraex became exhausted and quit.  It was a rather lengthy bout!

Hey...a win is a win!  lol

Looks like a great time.  I've been meaning for 15 years to get to Augusta for this.  Since I live in Atlanta it shouldn't be that hard, but there's always another diversion.   >:(  Thanks for sharing.
This is my boomstick!
