Nope, black primer and then a series of drybrushes with increasingly lighter shades of brown. I then took the belly and throat several shades lighter with more drybrushing. The mottling on his back was done with paint-based glazes (paint+glaze medium+a tiny amount of water), the very darkest spots are just brown ink.

Ah cool thanks for the info on that...Might have to raid the Kids toybox for Dino's..Would get my VSL stuff off and running :P

You're welcome! I'm just sorry I can't give you exact paint colours, as I was more or less making it up as I went along. The paints have been packed back in, so I can't even guess by checking the paints that aren't in their tray...Sorry.  :'(
It's all Vallejo, though, and I remember that the last drybrush on the belly was very pale. May have been Vallejo Pale Sand or even Flat Aluminium.
