OO gauge Wills plastic sheets are suitable for 28mm?
« on: January 20, 2014, 03:12:19 PM »
Hi,

I was searching for some convenient plastic sheet to scratchbuild some Normandy walls and buildings (of course they'll be useful for non-Normandy games as well).

Wills Kits OO Building Pack Coarse Stone SSMP200 sounds to be the best choice, but, as it's OO gauge, I wonder if could be used also for 28mm.

Any hint or suggestion is welcome!

Thank you!
Marco

I have used Wills plastic sheets for many building projects and I have to admit they do look good along side 28mm minis.

However I shall have a look and see if I have the one you mention and try get some photos next to a miniature so you can have a look and determine if its what your after.

do You have a link? I have used a lot of HO plastic sheets, with stones it depends on the size.
The problematic ones are roof tiles and bricks

I've used them happily enough for both 15mm and 25mm. Given that scale is in the eye of the beholder and often rules warp ground scale and figure scale. There are umpteen varieties of pantiles etc. out there. It depends entirely what proportions of modeller vs wargamer there is in your bloodstream. For visual effect and speed of result they are the business imho. Once you go down the 'must be in the correct scale' route there is also a substantial cost implication as well to be borne in mind.

Thank you, boys!

I totally agree with you all about the matter of "correct scale" of rough stones! ;)
The problem is that I have a high percentage of modeller vs wargamer in my blood, but I suppose that the wargamer should prevale!

I'm going to place an order...

I've used Wills' coarse stone, pantiles, slates and waney edge board sheets in early mediaeval/dark ages and ECW buildings in 28mm. I've had no problems and think they work fine. Being quite thick, they aren't the easiest thing to use on curved constructions, but that's a different question, I guess.
