The summer of 192? sees the new empires of the U.S.A. and Japan go head-to-head in the opening moves for mastery of the Pacific Ocean.

The Washington Naval treaty of 1922 had tried to prevent this happening. In addition to limiting the construction of battleships, battlecruisers and aircraft carriers, it also forbade Britain, Japan and the U.S.A. from building naval bases and fortifications in the Pacific.

In this ‘what if’ scenario, a US naval construction team has tried to surreptitiously fortify the strategically tiny coral atoll of Wake Island.  Wake Island’s significance was that it was half way between Hawaii and mainland Japan.  Such as provocation was unlikely to be ignored by a confident and militaristic Japan.

It felt that bright June morning like just another day in Paradise for the few hundred construction workers and military personnel on the remote Pacific atoll…..

p.s. it was fought as a video game respawning exercise, a la the video game of the same name, so it was about individual scores....apart from Major Cornelius 'Treetrunk' Callaghan, USMC (me), who selflessly defended that bit of coral that is forever American.  Successfully.  Which is another way of admitting I forgot that was the way it was meant to be played  lol lol lol

And a huge thank you, as always to V.I.Blackwood for the amazing pics!

It's a bit undersized for 1/56, but looks the part, I.e. Bigger than the planes around it.  The Beast sourced it from the Philippines, sprayed it matt and added a pilot. I'm sure he will be along soon to let you know where exactly it came from.

I saw this at York and it was brilliant. I could have spent an hour watching!
Measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk, cut with an axe, hammer to fit, paint to match!
