What historical period is your favorite "niche"?

Based on carlos13th's comment here : http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=63159.15 I thought I would put forth a non-poll, just for fun.

Do you have a preferred "period" that you think is under-appreciated/under-represented in rules/miniatures that you would (not sure how, magic wand?) really be excited to see more 'visible' on the historical war game market?

For me it would be North America "New Spain" [Nueva España] in the 1680 - 1810 period.  There are rules (Matchlocks on the Warpath - OOP unfortunately, so I will probably go with THW's Long Rifle and Muskets and Mohawks,) and miniatures (Soldados from Dayton Painting Consortium and conversions for California Indios,) but I would wish for more if possible.

I have gamed a lot of others but the first has stayed as being very much like the FIW but with that swashbuckling feel to it

I like Samurai era's of Japan personally. I like Sengoku but I don't mind going further back to the Heian period for example. I like it far more for the visuals than anything else if I am totally honest. Liking miniatures and wanting to paint them is my primary reason for getting into wargaming after all.

Of course I may very wrong about it being under represented rules wise, there however don't seem to be any major rule sets covering it that I have seen, especially not with nice printed books. (Barring Ronin)

If anyone has any good rules suggestions for Samurai games please let me know.

I'm with carlos13th, after 30+ years of Wargaming I have yet to find a set of Samurai big battle rules that have appealed to me. Most sets are skirmish or large skirmish with multiple wounds etc which is alright but I would just like to have a chance to do big battles (I know there are medieval rule sets out there that let you field Samurai armies but they don't encapsulate the feel of the period).

Hard to pinpoint just 1 as favourite, but I guess these are ordered from most liked to I like it almost as much 
WW2 ground battles (Battlegroup series)
anything in the 20th century that involves planes (Wings of War for WW1, Check Your 6!/Jet age for anything later)

Anything with smaller numbers and/or second rate materiel.

Cold war in 28mm. Although there is some military plus the newly 7TV stuff there are almost no 1970s civilians with those horrible haircuts, clothes and stuff. I mean I can buy tons of muscle cars, but no drivers!

I have large collections of WW2, Medieval, Crusades and Greek & Roman period in 28mm.

However, in the past couple of years, I have focussed on two main areas

1480s - Swiss and Burgundian wars using mostly Perry WOTR figures.  There are many very good figures available for this but I am not sure of the rules to use.  I have WAB & Clash of Empires but an not fixed on either.  I am waiting for the Perries to provide command sets for the Swiss and Burgundians.

2001 to now - skirmishes using Force on Force with Empress and Mongrel figures (British, USA, Arab, Taliban, soon Chinese).
I would like to see new figures for generic regular army and militias, some with Russian weapons and some with American weapons.  These could be sets with seperate heads to cover African, Afgan, Middle Eastern and even South American forces.

My 'historical' period is Post Apoc.  No doubt.  But Dark Ages, Middle Ages are my second runner up with WWII close behind.

Like I've said elsewhere, I'm becoming more interested in local history, irish/ulster rebellions and wars, late 16th stretching to mid 17th, by way of ECW history.

Vietnam. It's so mixed up and on so many levels. Interesting forces, exotic equipment and important history.
The thing is it really is well served as a niche; lots of great minis and kits being produced by enthusiastic and talented artisans. Just wish it was more enthusiastically embraced 'round my way.
