Aragorn
« on: 08 March 2014, 01:52:59 PM »
Hi all!

I've finally finished this miniature I began in January (I'm that slow). It fell on his nose and I had to rescaulpt it (this is my second take) and it has ended up being too small.

I like the mud effect on the cloak and it looks like I'm improving my metals slowly.

VERY NICELY DONE! Your choice of woodsy, neutral colors is EXCELLENT; & your brushwork is OUTSTANDING.

Very subtle work here, and very Tolkienish indeed. I really like the green shade you used.
I always found those Mithril very difficult to paint, you did a great job there !

Thank you very much!

Next one in the painting queue is Mithril's Beorn (already started).

I really like it. Good proportions and good pose with many details even for a character who isn't known for his "flashiness" :)

I agree this is very well painted.

I just can't stand those Mithril Miniatures, they look like they have all been cloned. The faces of orc, man and elf look all alike and this slicked back hairstyle is really one of the worst I've seen.

I love your colors and shading! He definitely has the camouflage of a ranger.

Looks like time well-spent. Nice job!

I wouldn't say they're all cloned, but the sculptors do prefer a limited number of poses. At least they're clothing and gear are realistic, unlike the inspiration from the movies.

@Doomhippie: I agree Mithril miniatures are static and faces are minimalistic to say the least, but they do have some sort of charm for me besides being Tolkien's characters.

@Jevenkah: That was the idea! I based my color scheme in Angus McBride's MERP illustrations and in some of them he has a white shirt. I thought a ranger would never wear that and I changed it for a light brown, but other than that is like the old MERP covers.

Thanks all for the nice comments!
