I need some exotic fruit shrubs and trees
« on: March 09, 2014, 09:44:32 PM »
Hi all,

For my current project I'll be needing some fruit trees and/ shrubs and possibly some other exotic plants. Have to be 28 mm size and think more of cultivated trees.
Anyone happen to know where I can find some?

Cheers,

Geboom

if they don't have to be from Terra, You can improvise with artificial flowers, there is a lot of stuff out there that works like fruit.
For our trees You'll have to look for expensive 0-gauge railway stuff I'm afraid

Quite some time ago I made orange trees for my Peninsular war 25mm games. Take one commercially available small tree (about 50mm tall) They all are fairly regular in shape, so look 'cultivated' already. Buy a pack of 'dress making' pins (from the habidashery dept of any big dept. store.) the ones with a 'bobble' on the non sharp end. Cut the shaft down to about 10mm & paint it black (you do not want the very sharp point still on when it is in the tree) Then paint the 'bobble' what ever colour you want the fruit to be. I painted mine orange. Put some glue on the shaft and push it into the tree. My tress were done over 18 years ago and are still going fine.
I did see something similar done with polystyrene balls but thought them grossly overscale for oranges, OK for alien fruit though. Afew years ago I did see (at a model railway shop ) a packet of 'fruit' for trees. It was 2 small packs of tiny coloured beads. One pack orange, the other red. I think the idea is you put glue on the tree and (depending how much fruit you want) you roll the tree in the 'fruit' or sprinkle the fruit over the tree.
Good luck on building some.

as described above. commercially available beads of various size and shape might help You too. just kep in mind that cultivated trees are usually cut with a broad but not high crown, to maximize yield. The modern kind of cultivation in rows is even more minimalized.

the energy that doesn't go into growth goes into the fruit
do You know what period You want to enact?

Actually I am building an orangery (greenhouse)
Merely because I want to make a structure almost fully out of glass and it's also an object that you rarely see on a game table.

Will post WIP pics asap. Working on the roof section at the moment. The thing is getting more and more complex. ( really like that though )
