(KICKSTARTER) Rocketgames: Last Saga
« on: 19 March 2014, 10:26:26 AM »
Yet another Spanish company planning on producing ca. 28mm scale scifi miniatures, and presumably a game to go with them as well since everybody has to have one. So far they basically only have a Facebook page (that I know of) and they aren't even on KS yet but very unsurprisingly they plan to go that route.

The human concepts and the prototype Paramedic look nice enough and as they've promised to be "compatible with Infinity" they might well be usable, if not immensely inspired. Their only alien so far doesn't look promising tho but hopefully they'll package them separately... If they actually get off the ground.

Probably too early to tell but so far, I like the humans. I tend to be less of a "purist" so I might use them for Infinity for some mercenaries if they aren't priced as Corvus Belli's models or even higher as some W40K rip-offs. Otherwise I'll keep buying "the true thing".
I'm not too fond of the alien. I think I read somewhere they said they would make them their aliens very "humanish". They might be right about that. ;)

Their only xeno so far not only "humanish" but also rather "space fantastic". So two things about it me not likey. If it looks like a human, why not admit it also waddles like human -- even if it's "posthuman" rather than a baseline (as they have decency to do in the Beyond the Gates of Antares setting)?

Correction to this, upon reading the Miniatures Page advert thread Rocketgames aims to "provide an interesting tactical wargame oriented to tournaments. Easy and fun to play, but with a wide range of possibilities, the game sets up skirmishes in a sci-fi environment, where battle forces struggle for objectives to accomplish". So yes, there is going to be a game involved -- quelle surprise.

I don't mind new games but I tend to avoid "tournament oriented" games. I think tournaments tend to ruin games for several reasons. I suppose I'm totally wrong about that tho and that they are probably good for companies and people liking tournaments of course or lone gamers who can meet others thanks to them which is the only thing I find interesting about tournaments.
The only game I liked more when some people asked it to be changed for tournaments is "Songs of" because it made the points calculator happen from what I understood.

Well, sorry, looks like I forgot we were talking about a new game.

I should think it's entirely OK to voice one's general hopes and preferences at this stage when there is very little information as to the actual upcoming game. Personally I do prefer "tournament capable" games on the sometime mistaken belief it means tighter playtesting prerelease and more consistent rules...

Anyhow, the blast/explosion template they showed on their FB features a 2D6 scatter "compass" (presumably of it's an always scatters type) so their selected base die mechanism might be nonlinear (like in WARMACHINE which may have inspired them otherwise as well) but other than that, there's still no further hints.

One assumes this is about to change soonish however:

The start date for the LS KS has been set:

No English version of the beta rules yet however. Haven't bothered trying to decipher the Spanish ones that are available through Rocketgames FB. Don't foresee the rules to affect my decision to participate or not anyhow.

Running. Funded (for the time being at least). Cheapest early birds eaten (pending possible regurgitation).

Prices aren't too bad if you go for the starter sets but OTOH there is not much to go on there yet in regards to gauging their quality: most minis don't even have renders yet and the only one prototyped has been put on a locked add-on status o_o

Anyhow, not sure if I "really need" even the human starter set, never mind the space dark elves one so I'm rather undecided if I'm going pledge or not. Of course there is still almost a month to decide.

Oh and they have also published their beta rules on the KS site. Didn't read 'em yet tho so no comment about that.

Concepts and renders look decent, plus they're metal, which is a big plus for an old-school metal snob like me. But it's just not grabbing me. Another for the 'Remind Me' button.

The project's been in the doldrums pretty much since the first two or three days and in fact shows signs of falling victim to "pledge bleed" (possibly partly because of Fallen Frontiers KS starting: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=66775.msg816624#msg816624). So I wouldn't really bet on this one succeeding.

I like the aesthetic for this one...and if they're metals the price is very very good.  Not enough for me to pledge (I'd just peruse their line later for a couple models).

Well I'm in, just under the wire. Got my 48 hr reminder and saw a single 'Early Bird Combat' up for grabs. Sculpts look decent, they size up well with other ranges, but what pushed me over the line, you ask? Two words: "metal miniatures."

FWIW: Two Early Bird Combat pledges currently available. Decent price on two starters and stretch goals. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1318212665/last-saga

Went in in the end purely for the exclusive and the paramedic. Always after more civvies for Infinity/The Department  :D

Yes, civilians are always needed. Looks like Fallen Frontiers fell flat, so I'm pleased I backed this. The figs look decent and certainly versatile for my purposes.

I was sorry to see the Engineer (misspelled some way but can't recall how) vanish from the repertoire. Would've preferred more civ types myself. Still, I can probably just about find some use for most of the military minis I'll be getting from this one (went for the Master pledge with a gaming buddy who'll be taking about half of the stuff).
