although my basic napoleonic period awareness recalls this uniform and troop type I am not exactly sure what function they actually fulfilled. Were they supposed to build bridges? If so, wouldn't some versions with actual carpentry outfit and tools be a good addition? just a suggestion....

actually they were really the "Fireman of the Guard" and were also used
as Crack combat troops reaching battalion strength in the late Napoleonic
wars their distinctive helmets placing them apart from other guard troops

the bridge builders at the Berezina were "real engineers"...saved by
the forsight of General Eble (spelling) who died of exhaustion in 1813.. :)

the engineers of the guard were used for digging trenche..and they set up
Napoelons tent when he made camp.........their was a sappeur contingent
to this unit as well with the famous lobster armour...regards

With no doubt Eble and his pontoneers did the main work at the bridges.
Their first battalion under Gauthier and the second battalion under Chapelle made on the 26th november little more then 400 men and two carriages
with tools. So they hired everyone for help with experience in engineerwork and doind wodden constructions.
They got help from the Engineers of the Guard under General Kirgener, as well as the Sappers of the guard and the Berg Sappers under Battalion Comander Blaux.
The Sailors of the Guard under Ganteaume where going for help too.
Finally the miners and the workmen detachments should be mentioned. They allone lost five officers at the Berezina.
So the engineers are well placed at the Berezina, but probably without helmets and less stylish uniformed. But that is the point where fact got sacrificed on the altar of fiction.
I want them their in all their beauty :-) So mine will probably come with shawls and helmets. :o ;)

I picked up my Funckens, in French back then, 45 years ago from a shop in the top of the Arche De Triomphe, Paris, after a visit to Les Invalides.

Moments in a miniatures enthusiasts life that will never be foregotten :-)
I got my first Napoleonic Funken Volumne after weeks of saving every Pfennig of my pocket-money from a smal bookshop in the Rhineland.
Thats 35 years now o_o :o

Even used one of the pictures for my O Level Art Exam!!!!

But, seriously, the plethora of small companies filing gaps in ranges is quite extraordinary.  Wargamers have never had so much choice or variety.

Engineers would have been there, but the Garde went with Napoleon and I don't think that he went to Spain.  Still, this is only a game......... ;D

I understand the difference between guard and line would be basically the hat with engineers. Are there replacement heads planned? or bare heads for the hard work?
