british troops in SD caps in BoB?
« on: March 27, 2014, 05:35:37 PM »
Ok the title says it all, There were instance of British troops using SD caps instead of Wolseley helmets in BoB/Middle East? I have seen one pictures of  off duty enlisted in SD caps in Egypt. One picture from Tientsin show SD caps used. I know troops from India were required to wear tropical dress, but units coming from different commands, especially during the RCW?

Catch: I want some british cavalry but the sculpts I like more are not in Wolseley (actually only Brigade do them in Wolseley and they do not have swords).

You're wanting an imaginary unit, and then worrying if the uniform is correct?

There's a photo in the Transcaspian episode of British officers in cap. Captioned "Indian cavalry officers".

that...
else use woodbine heads, they have every possible hat You might want...
and they have a fine medium size for any kind of scalecreep required

Head swaps... seems a reasonable approach as much I am not fond of cutting and hacking....  o_o but I already did small conversions in the past.

Mark,

imaginary or not, I want plausible uniforms (and usually even in imaginary settings my units are real). Often there are reasons for using or not using specific pieces of kits in particular areas, and let's face it if no SD caps had ever been used in the field outside UK and Europe it would not be nice... yet while I like Brigade Bengal lancers their Yeomanry is without swords... Thus GW (Great War not Ga...hop) figures with woodbine sun hats sound a decent and easy conversion. I have to check also Musketeer or Reiver cavalry too.... anyway I need only 6...

I just remembered this:

And these.... http://over-open-sights.blogspot.it/2012/07/gloucestershire-yeomanry-royal.html

Just but the models with swords rather than rifles.

Am currently doing the Woodbine headswaps onto some Musketeer Mins British Cavalry and VBCW BUF cavalry troopers. No sword option here but looking good so far.
