I did have a look at these, they wont work for around the face which is the main issue, also if being geeky they are modern tribal tattos not traditional so wouldnt really reflect the Maori tatoo which tended to follow the hard lines of the face :)

I agree, they simply are too modern and not at all how the Maori adorned themselves.

I initially tried using a pencil, but wasn't happy with the result.  So in the end I chickened out and didn't paint the moko at all - you don't really notice them at this scale anyway.

I had a big fail with the pens so have chickened out too, first 12 done now so will getsome photos up :)

I found it really difficult to do facial tattoos on the Empress minis as the facial details were very fine and sharp with limited flat spaces....I did around 3-5 with facial tattoos but felt it took away from the overall look of the mini and did not look as realistic as I wanted....also I was attemping to layer them with 3 levels of colour. It was extremely difficult to replicate the complexity of the tattoos on such a small area to work with.

Below is an example of one of the better ones.
