28mm Bush Wars additions
« on: April 07, 2014, 04:31:15 AM »
Here's a first look at some Rhodesian African Rifles figures that I've been working on for Eureka.

As per, there are more photos on the blog: http://flyinggorilla.blogspot.com.au/2014/04/28mm-rhodesian-african-rifles.html

There'll be an additional stick of 4, basically the bare-headed figures with caps added, plus a European officer figure to round out the set. The firing MAG gunner figure has a separate bipod for his MAG which is not in the photos. I have omitted the cord from radio to handset on the stick-leader figure, which the customer (that's you guys) can add if they want to, the pose in this instance meaning that the cord would be difficult to cast and overscale.

These figures have been an engrossing project, there will definitely be more Bush Wars figures coming off my workbench in the not too distant future.

Nice. One minor thing that's been irritating me though. The SLR has a non-reciprocating cocking handle which when cocked, lies flat against the receiver. You cock the weapon, let the bolt fly forward and the handle flicks back to that position. The only time it is perpendicular to the reciver is when you are actually pulling the bolt back to cock the weapon.

Apart from that, damn near perfect. Some bush hat variants would be handy though.

Cheers for the feedback gents.
Bush hats could be a go. I've been thinking that with American M1 helmets these figures could also double as 1960s Congolese troops.

Wonderful figures...

coming out when I have decided to not enter any new 28mm project for the foreseeable future due to lack of funds. So as much I have to say that these are incredibily nice... they are or too late or too early... the only thing in 28mm I have a need for right now is some SADF troopers...

I hate to drool at something I cannot get... umpf... damn recession... damn International Relations pundits... hope that Putin will save my career...  lol

Kosta,
Beautiful figures, well and believably posed.  Alas as Arrigo says, there are just so many projects one can do.

...don't worry Arrigo, plenty will step forth and fill your shoes buying these troops...no question.

The RAR are an interesting mix. They start the Bush War making many early mistakes, quickly adapt to the new COIN environment and become a first rate Fireforce unit. A unit with very strong regimental traditions, somewhat less flexible on a man for man level than their cousins in the RLI but tough, hardy soldiers and as good as most in theatre when well led....little wonder the Selous Scouts pouched many an RAR soldier into its ranks.

These minis will bring some lustre back to the gone but not forgotten Rhodesian African Rifles....

Yank tin hats would be greatly appreciated, will save me quite a bit of conversion work. You might want to ditch the bedrolls on the back. Belgians for the Congo would also be a winner IMO.
