Chain of Command Goes East
« on: 18 May 2014, 11:08:15 AM »
A new campaign on the Eastern Front in early 1945 has just started on Lard Island.  I've been painting like a lunatic for a while and now we have just enjoyed oour first outing on the tabletop.

You can read about the set-up here: http://toofatlardies.co.uk/blog/?p=2789

and here: http://toofatlardies.co.uk/blog/?p=2793

And the first game here:  http://toofatlardies.co.uk/blog/?p=2798

Some real learning going on with the new SMG platoon, but great fun.

We're now getting ready for the next game tomorrow.

Oh, that East!

I was thinking PTO.

Interesting gaem AAR.  Seems quite nice, gritty, fun, and yet unforgiving of mistakes.

Gracias,

Glenn

Even though it looked pretty pear shaped for the Germans at the very start, it's interesting to see how the well-timed deployment of a support unit can act as damage control at worst. The half-track giving your platoon pause for thought probably saved the Germans from a crushing defeat (or being flambéed), and I liked that it also allowed for the dramatic rescue of the wounded NCO. The campaign system further brings out the realism by the fact that a player will opt to pull back rather than risk further casualties in the hopes of damaging the enemy a bit more. Looking forward to more! I really must redouble my efforts to get CoC to the table.

The second game in the campaign has now been played.  We had a bit of a delay as my Mum was taken ill so I had to head up to Cheshire last week, but now we're back in the swing of things.

This game was a Soviet probe against a German outpost position.

You can read details here:

It was not an action I'll forget in a hurry!

Well, we've knocked out a further couple of games in our campaign.  You can find the first one, a very short game, here:
http://toofatlardies.co.uk/blog/?p=2846

A fleeting engagement of the type one gets in campaigns.  The Germans were clearly still rubbing the sleep from their eyes as they realised the Soviets had by-passed them.

And then the next one here:

A much tougher engagement altogether as the Soviets ratchet up the pressure.

Those who've been reading my post about MDF buildings should be seeing the brewery in action fairly soon, but first its a delaying action to play out.

Cheers

Rich

There's a panzerschreck team due for a good flogging then. The Platoon CO being in the thick of the action is a double edged sword I suppose. I doubt I would dare have him lead from the front in a campaign!
