Exodus Proxima Centauri uses silent death miniatures???
« on: May 21, 2014, 08:36:44 PM »
So a few days ago I passed by a store specializing in boargames and I spotted Exodus: proxima Centauri. On the cover is a rather familiar space ship, one I own myself. From the M4 space ships. I believe they used to be from a game called silent death?

Is there some greater setting connecting these I'm not aware off? Or did they just happen to licence the miniatures for their game?

Silent Death is still around and the game company did not license the miniatures.

Yes, but the gang I used to play with is no more.
I recently gave some plastic SD ships to a friend so he could use them as 6mm fighters (someday...)

Further research also shown the game does come with the miniatures. Strange. I am sure there is some logical explanation for this but it baffles me right now.

Actually, I've seen at least 2 or three games using those very same sculpts. Most of those had the sculpts cast in colourful plastic (red, blue, yellow etc, for each faction I suppose).

I had the same 'Huh? ??? ' moment last year at Spiel Essen, when I saw those games...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Weird.

I´ve been looking at the art for this game and some of the in game card art is also based on the minies.

I´m guessing Mr D from EM4 should be able to shed some light. Not that important a issue tough.

<snip> Not that important a issue tough.

If not licensed, it may be important to any IP rights holders...

That was my first impulse. But if like Daeothar says multiple games use them I can´t be the first to notice it right?

When ICE gave up the ghost, the plastic ships moulds were sold, I think, to a company in Italy; you can still get the sprues from EM-4 in the UK, and, I think, in the US from Red Shirt Games.

I've never seen them in other than the dark grey/gunmetal plastic, though.

I've a few soft rubber SD ships roughly 4-5 larger by, probably, some toy manufacturer who didn't follow IP too closely.

SD is still alive and getting better; the two main fellows trying to resurrect, especially Black Widow Pilot, posts often in TMP.

I will say I've a friend who used the smallest SD fighters as ground support in Dirtside games. Lovely cammo paint scheme, they looked smashing!

No need to use TMP, Black Widow Pilot is also a member here ;)

Here's a link to the game:
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/122842/exodus-proxima-centauri
Sure looks like SD to me:

There was some discussion regarding the rights to these figures here:

Looks like it's possible that the Exodus Proxima didn't get the ships through a licensed source, though I've yet to see any evidence that EM4 -who I think owns molds- has ever secured the right to the images which are SD IP.

Absolutely!

However, he's posted six times here; he's over 14,000 posts on TMP. Bit easier to get his attention there. Of course, just the opposite in most cases for me. LAF is easier to scan, IMNSHO.

Here's another post, but he's not commenting on this one.

I've sent him this thread's URL, as well, and he may have further info.
