First off, thank you all for your very kind comments! I'm glad that you like the table and the scenery for the game! Let me try to answer some of your questions, if I may, and please feel free to ask me more...
I've been gaming for about forty years, and i've been doing adventuring in Prof. M. A. R. Barker's Tekumel for some thirty-five. I was one of the founders of his Thursday Night Group, back in the late 1970s, and we played with him for all that time. I've also done "Blackmoor" with Dave Arneson, and "Greyhawk" with Gary Gygax.
However, I'm not really an 'RPG player', as such. I've always done things in miniature, and i guess I consider myself a model-builder first and foremost. Back in Ye Olden Dayes, we did our miniatures with a lot of RPG elements, and our RPGs with a lot of miniatures elements. So, when I wanted to have something a little nicer then the folding tables I had in the game room in my basement, this was the result.
The 'well' in the middle of the table is 48" x 48", and accepts the modular terrain tiles that I have. There are 'temperate', 'arid', and (forthcoming) 'wet' sets; I also have several sets of vegetation - 'arid', 'tropical', 'jungle', 'temperate', and 'mountain' so that I can set up any terrain type that I might need. I also have buildings and other items to make all sorts of scenario possible for our adventures.
My games run from 'straight wargames' with the big battalions to individual adventures in an RPG, all set in Tekumel. The idea is to be able to run anything, really, even ship to ship battles - I have a blue 'ocean' insert for the table. There is also a 'vertical extender' for the table, so I can run an adventure that happens on both the surface and underground at the same time; our next game session will have a game like this, and I thing the players will have a good time. Here's a photo (I hope; I'm new at this!):

The back drapes around the edge of the table top hide the lower level from the players until they get down there, but since people will want to see the action I set up one of my video cameras to feed the big monitor in the game room; that's a 25mm figure on the screen for scale.
I'll post updates, too, as soon as we play the game.
