Westwind U.S. Armoured Infantry WIP
« on: 02 June 2014, 05:38:56 PM »
Recently purchased a lot of 28mm WWWII kit because enough of it was 'table-ready' to make a decent team for Pulp Alley, Strange Aeons or 7TV. The rest of the lot, unpainted and part-painted, I thought I might sell on. :?  Well the poor things weren't protected at all from the postman, all jumbled together in wee bundles of magazine paper.  :'(

The painted minis arrived headless, broken and chipped. I'll admit I started glueing them back together in a bit of a funk.

Matching the original paints is trial and error...

So it's lemonade time. I have an unexpected new project on my bench and It's become quite a lot of fun. ;) I decided to round out the single squad to an understrength platoon, bringing the total number of figures up to thirty from the original ten. The original figures are getting some love, too; picking out the webbing and giving the weapons some character.

I'm a bit rubbish at painting 28's, but I'm getting attached to these weird little chaps with the funny gas-masks. Hopefully a splash of 'dip' at the end will finish them off well enough.
Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

Looks good. I wouldn't worry about matching the colors too much. Any one who's ever served can tell you that there is a good "range" in "standard colors". Wear, fading, new kit, etc...

And so it begins.  Do you really think your puny Americans can withstand the mighty onslaught of my mighty, Nazi horde?... Which are mighty!

Yep.  I hate those giganto bases.  Especially for zombies.  Nickels are perfect.

Good point 'Roc. Into the home stretch with this group now; weapons, details and flesh.

Hmmm... Maybe not too late.  ??? In any case, will have to wait until the varnish is dry.

Oooh!
I have some of these that have been sitting around for years.
I have often tied with the idea of some WWW2-type games.
Maybe one day, if smokezombie has anything to do with it.... ::)

Look forward to seeing how your rescue job turns out.
You never know, you may make me paint some of my own.
 :D

It is never too late.
Get shot of those hideous bases.
Now!

Done at last!

Reinforced, re-based and patched up, I'm sending these little guys off to the table-top for some fun.

It has been years since I last tried to paint a face in 28mm... Some of these turned out ok. As for the rest, lets just say I'm thankful for wee gas masks and the fact that I need a new prescription for my eyeglasses.

The freshly painted minis blend in just fine with the patched-up pre-paints, so they are a good looking coherent group from a yard away.

Best of all, there is enough variety and character here for some fun games.
