Qing armoured infantry in 15mm?
« on: November 23, 2023, 09:49:49 AM »
I've held off on asking this for a while since one of the last things I need at the moment is a new project, but in a certain sense this is resuming a dormant one, so I'll let myself off the hook this once. Does anyone do Qing (with a 'g' on the end!) armoured infantry in 15mm? I once almost went and got some Outpost ones, but I gather that the owner tragically passed away last year having closed up shop due to his health, so I'm now casting about for alternatives. If there aren't specifically Qing forces, I suspect I might potentially get away with proxying and converting Ming or Korean armoured infantry – ideally with bow or spear if possible.

On a side note, I know Khurasan promised to do some arquebusiers for their Qing range back when it released. Did anything ever come of that? I've got some of the Irregular musketeers from their Boxer Rebellion range but they don't quite look 'right' mixed in a unit with the Khurasan ones (both the sculpting style and the clothing depicted are quite dramatically different), which got me asking.

Would they have been dismounted Manchu cavalry?

It's a good question to which I don't have a good answer. Only a portion of Manchu troops by the Taiping War (the period I'm covering) were mounted anyway, and most were unarmoured, but there are occasional suggestions of armoured infantry appearing in places, particularly during the north China campaigns in 1858-60 during the Arrow War/Second Opium War, which I presume might also be backdated a bit to the Taiping northern expedition in 1853-4.

Sadly not.  There has been some talk of another manufacturer picking up Outpost's 15mm ranges.  Nothing concrete as yet.  I'd like to buy some myself.

Old Glory's Koreans and Ming look quite nice but I have yet to see them in the metal as it were.
