1/48 scale Dolls Houses = 28mm
« on: June 03, 2014, 06:59:31 AM »
Hi Folks

Following the success of my Dolls House Church I have put together a simple list of 1/48 scale Dolls House suppliers in the UK on my blog.

So if you are looking for weather vanes, furniture, beehives, or just a beach hut head to one of these sites.
This is a real treasure trove !

Hope this helps…

Nice collection of supply sites. I'll have to do a search for this side of the pond.

Some really handy stuff there. The tudor stuff would be great for a Border Reivers game. Thanks for sharing.

I almost moved over to the dark side a while back when looking into accessories for the Frother's game 'Cthluedo'.

I ordered some bits from atriflesmall today - it'll be interesting to see how things progress.

I keep forgetting about this site - it's supposedly 1/43 but they do chimney pots, pipes etc:

Excellent post that man! I've been looking for a church for ages but had a picture in my head that just wasn't matched by anything I'd seen but this is near enough perfect. And I like a lot of the other bits, none of it is too expensive from the same company. So many thanks to you Eric
Cheers JB

Well the bits arrived today - very quick!
I ordered some of the plastic bedroom and dining room furniture, a couple of laser etched kits and some pewter stuff.
My initial impression is that they are indeed a trifle small, being more suited to 20mm than 28mm; although admittedly I don't have any figures with me to compare them with. i do know that if any of my VBCW miniatures wanted a wash, they wouldn't fit in the 1/48 tin bath I ordered, although it could double up as a wash tub, no nothing lost there.
I want to use these bits to make some improvised barricades, so I can easily bash them up and hide the smallness and don't think my money has been wasted.
I'll post some photos with my minis when I get the chance.

Just want to offer one small caveat.  I've just bought a basic cottage kit from Petit Properties, to see if it fit with any of the other laser cut MDF buildings I've already got (Sarissa, Warbases).  All you get for your money is completely blank and featureless MDF, cut to size to form a completely bare shell of the building.  There is no etched detail, no doors, windows or other detailing parts.  You're expected to add all the detail yourself using standard scratch-building techniques and materials.  There aren't even any slots & tabs to facilitate assembly of the building shell.

So if you're expecting anything like the usual wargaming MDF building kits, you will be disappointed.  They're crafting kits, where all the fun is supposed to be in the modelling process.  Fair enough if you like that sort of thing, but if you do, to be honest I think you're better off doing a complete scratch-build and spending your money on furnishings instead.
