You really just need something like this:

A desk lamp with a "daylight" spectrum bulb (like GE "Reveal") will give you truer colours than regular bulb, and avoid using just real daylight... it's way too directional

Position the lamp above and behind your camera, not pointing directly at the figures. It should give you only vague shadows, and better colours.
