Fish Shack: Stonehaven Miniatures terrain KS
« on: June 18, 2014, 10:56:08 PM »
If your 28mm Deep Ones need to smoke a kipper, Stonehaven Miniatures has released a fish shack as their seventh storage-friendly terrain piece in their pre-printed "pop up miniature terrain" KS. Seven terrain kits for $32, or $15 for the PDFs. Kits are designed to fold flat *after* assembly for easy storage and transport. A $15 PDF version is also available. (Fat Dragon Games also has "fold flat" paper craft PDFs, available at DriveThruRPG. FDG published a Cthulhu shrine as part of their Kingdom of Cthulhu line, but I can't information about it.)

Here's a detail from the fish shack terrain kit, from Update 4:

Very clever, and certainly useful for those of us that have limited storage space and no dedicated gaming area.  I can also see my wife having a field day breaking out the pencil crayons to colour them.  They're definitely very "fantasy" though, and I'd feel a bit odd using them for anything Lovecraftian.  Would love to see an Innsmouth or Dunwich set done up like this.  Pop-up Church of Dagon!

Pop-up scenery is a brilliant idea.
History viewed from the inside is always a dark, digestive mess, far different from the easily recognizable cow viewed from afar by historians.

I love to build scenery...and yet, I want these. Super smart idea, and also really cool looking!

The Viking detail looks suitably gothic, and they're hitting their free forest hex stretch goal in under $300!

Oh, and... COLOR!!!

Last day!  This one wraps in less than 12 hours.

I ended up backing this, not so much for mythos-related use but when I eventually get back into Mordheim and fantasy RPGs.  With the stretch goals that have been met, the current set will cover roughly a 3'x4' area with buildings and mixed landscape - plus a bridge and set of road and water feature overlays - and you can always print extra to expand it.  A whole table of easy-store, easy-transport terrain for $50 (with shipping - Americans get a smoking deal at $32) strikes me as a pretty fair bargain.
