Figure Finder: "Tsar Wars"!
« on: 04 July 2014, 07:29:10 PM »
Hey All,

After much success in finding a figure to represent 'Jabba the Hutt' (thanks Dewbakuk!), I thought I'd try it again.

I request access to our collective miniature knowledge to find a figure to represent the Dark Lord of the Russian Empire.

I've got some ideas down on my blog: LINK.

Anyone got any ideas?

MM.

Not a clue, really, though I'm certainly watching this.

I'd probably just get a WotC Darth, and have it painted up bronze and verdigris.

Doug

Edit: And thanks for the nudge; I only got through about half the first book. Time for another attempt!

It kind of depends on how much work your willing to do, and what kind of look your going for.

If you want the hulking and menacing look of your first inspiration picture then Mantics enforcer captain, (the deathzone version) might make a good basis. You would need to replace the huge blaster and give him a sabre analogue, plus naturally a better suiting head. The head on that figure is separate so that should help. There are probably more then enough Starwars clix and wizards prepainted Vaders out there which could donate a head for cheap.

Maybe one of these as a base?

Are you after extreme mechanical? Reason I ask is you could probably do something with a Napoleonics figure in cuirass etc if you wanted showy.
So many projects..... so little time.......

There's also Hinterland's Autohussaren if you go the robot route:

I joined my gun with pirate swords, and sailed the seas of cyberspace.

Have you looked at the Demonics from the 1999 from Cell Entertainment? I'd choose this guy and convert. More here if you're looking for different poses, less armor, etc.:

I like that, give it a new head and a weapon change, paint it in brass/copper/green and I think that could work.

Hey All,

Thanks for all the replies. I'm starting to form a pretty good picture of what I'm aiming for now.

Individual Responses;

It kind of depends on how much work your willing to do, and what kind of look your going for.

If you want the hulking and menacing look of your first inspiration picture then Mantics enforcer captain, (the deathzone version) might make a good basis. There are probably more then enough Starwars clix and wizards prepainted Vaders out there which could donate a head for cheap.

I'm willing to put a fair bit of effort in. I'm rather handy conversion wise, but cannot sculpt for toffee.

The aforementioned Enforcer Captain is a really nice looking model. That first image is what I'm really leaning towards - big and hulking. I fear that the Mantic model is a little too clean and futuristic though.

Maybe one of these as a base?

That is a cool figure. Reminds me of the robot from Portal 2, perhaps crossed with an Accuay Mobile Suit. Quite pricey too.

Do like the cool 'forearm sword' thing - Will try and include that element in whatever ends up being the final model.

I think a Nepolionic figure might undersell the idea a little, but a good shout all the same.

There's also Hinterland's Autohussaren if you go the robot route:

I don't think that this guy would be all too great for this project - but that's one hell of a figure! I've meant to get some Hinterland figures for a while....I'll have to make sure I pick one up whenever I get round to making an order.

The 'demonic chapion' has some scope to it, but the sculpting is a little goofy. Are they OOP nowerdays?

(Sorry for the double post!)

Hey All,

I've just blogged up a 'plan' for how to go about creating this machanical man.

I know you've moved on, but I just found out about the project. In respect to Jabba, how about a conversion from a GW Ogre? They're surprisingly versatile with a bit of cut and reconstruction. Here's one I did a few years ago as an objective marker/fun thing to do:

You could cut down the legs and arms to make him tubbier looking.

Bit bulky for my tastes, but definitely a plan. Keep us informed!

@mrinku Impressive! I'd never thought of that, and it's surprisingly useful.

Thanks. One of these decades I'll paint her :)

In respect to the Dark Lord, what about one of the more retro GW terminator suits (with Eisenkern head and appropriate steam powered adds)?

Sorry to be going all GW here. I'm actually reformed...

EDIT:

Just had a brainwave regarding this. His sword could be steam heated to be red hot to get the appropriate colour and glow and make it capable of slicing through almost any material. And perhaps and Electro-Magnetic Manipulatory on the other arm to enable him to lift and hurl ferrous objects?

How about this guy for 'Darth Vader'?

http://www.freebooterminiatures.de/en/catalog/432

Remove the shield/pistol and some minor conversion work.

Credit where credit is due I saw the mini here first:

I really like this mini for a VSF figure.
