Some of you have been asking about the forthcoming Osprey Adventures title Steampunk Soldiers: Uniforms & Weapons from the Age of Steam. Here is a little sneak peek before the November release:

Between 1887 and 1895, the British art student Miles Vandercroft travelled around the world, sketching and painting the soldiers of the countries through which he passed. In this age of dramatic technological advancement, Vandercroft was fascinated by how the rise of steam technology at the start of the American Civil War had transformed warfare and the role of the fighting man. This volume collects all of Vandercroft’s surviving paintings, along with his associated commentary on the specific military units he encountered. It is a unique pictorial guide to the last great era of bright and colourful uniforms, as well as an important historical study of the variety of steam-powered weaponry and equipment that abounded in the days before the Great War of the Worlds.

Dopey moi, I'd just asked about it in the In Her Majesty's Name board.

Hoping either there will be sufficient direct inspiration, or, perhaps, Messers Cartmell and Murton will bash together some appropriate lists for the blog!  :D

Edit: Not before they finish 'Gothic', of course!

Direct inspiration? Not really - there's no direct connection between this and In Her Majesty's Name.

Indirect inspiration? Most certainly - troop types, technology, organizations (Italy's Ufficio di Esplorazione springs to mind). As with everything Craig and Charles have done with IHMN, there's what's printed... and then the thousands of other possibilities that the rules can accommodate.

This shows promise and should inspire VSF fans everywhere.
In the style of a traditional Osprey title too.
I like that.

Well, Craig tried to correct me on this as well, but I meant direct TO ME inspiration. I wasn't suggesting he'd got 'special treatment', but would it hurt to give them a little heads up?    ::)

Inspired lunacy - that is gloriously silly.  I love it when VSF and Steampunk actually looks Victorian era, but with one or two little twists (vice somebody who looks like he wandered off the set of Starship  Troopers - not Victorian)

By that standard, Metternich, there's a lot of 'inspired' lunacy... and a little but of just plain, old-fashioned lunacy!  :D

Craig, you guys will get copies as soon as we have advances - that's already taken care of.  ;)

The advances for Steampunk Soldiers came in at the end of last week, and I'm all a-froth - they look great!

I've posted some notes and another little sneak peek of some of the content on my blog.
