1/237 YT 1500 transport
« on: July 15, 2014, 06:03:10 PM »
Bit of a lunchtime project at work. Recently got the old Millennium Falcon snap fit kit from the Ertl Battle of Hoth set (thanks Rodrigo  :) )

As a model trying to be the Millennium Falcon it's crap but as conversion potential it's great  :D

I had a quick look on google images to see what had been done before and I don't think what I'm doing has, which is good  :)

Basic kit as it comes...

With the left mandible and cockpit taken off...

And now with the new cockpit location...

Plenty to do and as I'm only doing it at work progress will be long but hopefully updates will be fairly regular  :)

cheers

James

that sounds promising! Why is that crappy in its vanilla shape? That looks ok to me from the photo!

Thanks chaps  :)

A lot of the details are totally wrong. Yes, the basic shape is there (round, two sticky out bits at the front and a cockpit at the side) but when you start to look at it in ever closer detail there are so many things wrong it sends a shudder up my spine  :D

I'm probably going to light it as well WH means a new cockpit and removing the 'engines' (it's just a blank area at the moment).

cheers

yet I don't see why You did not use the old cockpit access which You have cut off?

Making it fit (due to the angle change) wouldn't be worth it and it's a tad small anyway and since I'm lighting it it'll make it easier to remake the cockpit rather than piss around changing the old one.

I didn't ask; I knew from his issues with the kit-as-is meant there would be 'flaws' I'd be blind to.  :D

Tube for the cockpit is a right cylinder, correct? Piercing the ship's body makes it look tapered?

Have a few kits around; really wanted to do X-Wings defending rebel transports back in the day.

It's just a normal cylinder but you are correct about the taper.

I like it, I'm sure you know that you can use a drill as a lathe and put a taper on most things.
