Project Horned God (OG&M)
« on: 20 July 2014, 10:06:00 AM »
James Morris' game of Of Gods and Mortals on Thurs evening at the Club caught my attention.

Rather than do the sensible thing and finish off one of my other projects I thought I'd have a dabble in OG&M.

I fancied theming a couple of Pantheons on one of my favourite 2000AD characters,  Slaine,  and in particular The Horned God graphic novel. Instead of jumping straight in with the man himself, I thought a force based around The Weird Slough Feg and his allies the Formorians

A quick call/visit to North Star and I came away with a bunch of figures to do the following:

God
Crom Cruach the Great Bloody One*

Legends
The Wierd Slough Feg "Druid"
Megrim "Banshee"
2 x Sabre Tooths "Celtic Werewolves"
Formorian War Chief "Generic Hero with Armour"

Mortals
2 x 8 Formorian Warriors
1 x 8 Fanatics

That comes to about 1070 points but I can trim it for starter games.

In time, they'll probably form the core of two separate forces.

Oh and I admit it, I had to buy a figure of Slaine as the Horned God, just to make sure that I go on to do one of the Tribes of the Earth Goddess   :D

The Formorians are already painted and inked ...

* I just need to source a plastic giant worm, as I'm not paying £30 for a D&D Purple Worm no matter how nice ... So, if anybody happens to have something suitable I'll happily trade/buy.

Otherwise,  any advice/tips would be appreciated as I've only had a read through of the RB so far.

Best,

James

$2.99!

Instead of Fanatics, I'd pony up for some Viridians from Chronopia to play the part of Drune Soldiers, but that's just me! ;)

Nice list!

Hi LA, thanks for that.

The Reaper worm would have been perfect,  but once you add in postage from the US it's not that much cheaper than a reduced price D&D Purple Worm.  Which I've now sourced  :D

I know what you mean about the Drune Lords,  they really should be in for the Formorians.  I'll check out the figures you suggested.

The Fanatics are a compulsory choice if using Crom; I'd have preferred to have used Witches there (with the same Stats) but wanted to strike while the iron was still hot.

If you change your mind the Reaper worm is available in the UK from SNM Stuff for the princely sum of £2·65 plus post. I have 2 nearly painted and they're great.

Yup, I bought and painted two of the bones worms from Tim@miniature heroes - can't recommend him highly enough for reaper stuff. Really nice. And one really cool advantage to the material is that I wasn't entirely trusting that super glue would keep them stuck to the base so got a couple of small screws - works a treat.

Miniature heroes in the uk sell Reaper range may be worth a cheaper punt. Also I think you can get a worm from those clix thingies.

Good theme. I have been using my celtos stuff for a slaine themed force. I have had to tweak as their Firbolg are undead but plenty of options to use them as drune. I sold off a load of the drune

Yup - bought a Reaper plastic worm off Tim. Great service already!

Did i understand you correctly LTD - Celtos Fir Bolg as Drunes? Do you have a link/UK stockists.

McFonz - nice tip on fixing the Worm. Thanks

I've been brushing up on my Irish Mythology. I need a suitable [golden] statue of Crom, surrounded by 12 x stones in a circle. The stones i can just about manage  ;) but can anyone suggust a suitable figure for the statue incarnation of Crom. I would imagine that it should be rather rough/unformed. Crom means, amongst other thing, "head" so that might be something to base on.

Formos just need a quick highlight/basing then i'll post a couple of photos.

Also, any thoughts on Witch figures? I'm thinking underfed (unarmed) nakked/cloaked but not aimed at the teenage boy market  :)

Perfect for one of the eight Witches (should that be 13?)

My Fanatic figures will fill in in the meantime then pass to the Tribe force with Slaine

You been watching 'Hannibal'? The black horned figure that appears in Will's nightmares as Hannibal is a hideous, demonic version of a Horned God.
