Viking Expedition To The Gold Coast
« on: July 26, 2014, 09:31:01 AM »
Well a bit misleading title, but I suppose I will base my colonial endeavours on the brief history of Danish occupation. There was a bit of going on going on in the Gold Coast, but not much. They mainly fought the Swedes there too...

But I'm not going to be to stiff about history and I will use these in other contexts too.

Here is Mbele Mbule, king of a tribe in the area around Fort Carlsborg.

In retrospect there may be a bit too much going on in the paint jobs. I could have kept it at just white details and probably will for the next batch.

A bit of history:

On April 20, 1663, the Danish seizure of Fort Christiansborg and Carlsborg (Cape Castle) completed the annexation of the Swedish Gold Coast settlements. From 1674 to 1755 the settlements were administered by the Danish West India-Guinea Company. From December 1680 to 29 August 1682, the Portuguese occupied Fort Christiansborg.

In 1750 it was made a Danish crown colony. From 1782 to 1785 it was under British occupation.[citation needed] On 30 March 1850 all of Denmark's Danish Gold Coast Territorial Settlements and forts of the Kingdom of Denmark were sold to Britain and incorporated into the British Gold Coast.

The title of its chief colonial administrator was Opperhoved (singular; sometimes rendered in English as Station Chief) since 1658, only in 1766 upgraded to Governor.

Looks like the Colonial Painting Expedition has created even more inspiration.
These chaps look great, mate.
I was enjoying seeing them join the Expedition and it is good to see them continue to gain new members.

Love those shields!

Thanks!

The quality of my work fluctuates quite a lot depending on the size or model count.   I have just ordered 70 plastic zulu and I have no illusions about how they will end up looking.  lol

They would be fantastic for Pulp gaming too.

Sure! Ready to cook downed pilots in their island's volcano.

Thanks matey. Yes, you do seem to be repeating yourself lately. Alzheimer?

Thank you!

You assume correct,  I think.  Bought them second hand.

I'm quite happy with the skeletal guy myself. I probably should paint a unit up like that.

hahahahaha Have to agree Von Lucky, just what I was thinking.

Nice little start you have there Crazy Viking. Lovely bright saturated tones. Nice shading, and interesting figures. I like the 'Baron Samedi' skeleton guy too. Perhaps give him a top hat to loot ;)

Cheers
Matt
