(Army Painter) WWII British Infantry 28mm
« on: July 28, 2014, 08:39:20 PM »
Having done 15mm Germans last year, for this year's Army Painter I will be attempting a 28mm British Infantry force for Bolt Action.  The plan is as follows:

August:  1 Section (10 man section with 3 extras to swap in for Late War)

September:  HQ unit (this will include the Lt +2 men, PIAT team, 2" Mortar team, Sniper and Flamethrower Team)

October:  2 Section (10 man section with 3 extras to swap in for Late War)

November:  Support Teams (Vickers team, 3" mortar team, Forward Observer + 2 men, Medic and stretcher bearers)

December:  3 Section (10 man section with 3 extras to swap in for Late War)

I've got some Demolitions guys to fit in at some point too

My plan was to use Vallejo English Uniform, unless somebody can point me in the direction of something better this week.

Thanks Mick.  Those guides pretty much confirm the colour plan that I had in mind.

So, here is the first unit to be painted.  A 10 man Infantry Section.  On the far left of the picture are 3 extra figures (a SMG, Bren and Bren support) to be swapped for riflemen for Late War battles.

These will be undercoated today and painting will commence after work tomorrow.

Test paint scheme - pics aren't great (phone).  Badges will follow later as will bases.

Added deeper shading and lighter highlights to the test figure and have now got 5 of the section completed and some paint on the other 8.  Hope to have them finished this week, before I go on holiday.  This will leave the last week of the month for constructing a Mayan temple for a Freebooters' Fate game in early September.

Back from holiday and ready to finish these guys off.  Hopefully get sand on the bases tomorrow, then get the sand painted on Thursday and grass added Friday.  Photos to follow....

Looking good, props for painting the insignia on the arms!

Thanks Dr M.  I read somewhere that the troops were told to remove insignia before going into battle, but most of them kept at least some badges on.  I thought I'd have the lot, just 'cos it looks nice on the miniature - it gives a nice conrast colour and breaks what otherwise would be a large block of a single colour.

I wasn't sure what the tabs on the helmets were supposed to be, but have seen a picture of a helmet with canvas loops riveted on to take cammo.

Interesting, I've only ever seen those 'camo retaining loops' as part of a sack cloth style helmet cover. Which is what the profile of these helmets looks like. See 2nd pic down on this page:
