Great painting. Lovely looking efforts as usual, with one slightly jarring thing which is the black bull insignia (11th Armoured) looks too big..   maybe 28mm decals on 20mm vehicles?

Yeah I know. They were supposed to be 1/72 decals from PSC but I’ve always find them large, so not sure why I persisted using them. I’m thinking of covering them with camouflage netting rather than trying to paint them out.

Well Doug, you managed to spur me into action to sort out those large decals. I've been working on camouflage netting for another project so quickly applied it to the Achilles. Oversized decals sorted and an upgrade to the model at the same time. Result!

The other project was an upgrade to a old Armourfast Cromwell. Added stowage from Value Gear; camouflage netting made from a bandage and a crew figure from AB.

You paint 20mm better than I paint 28mm, great work!

I have a fair few of the 'simpler' kits designed for gamers from the Plastic Soldier Company and Armourfast. As I've said before, they are not bad but they have their issues. The Armourfast stuff tends to be very basic and the PSC kits have a lot of rather chunky over-scale details. Both are robust for gaming as a result but often benefit from detailing to improve their look.

I've been going back to some of these to find ways to improve them. Like I did with the Achilles and Cromwell I can use camouflage netting to cover up parts of the kit. In other ways something as simple as a good crew figure can make a difference.

One of the issues with the PSC German kits is that the bow machine gun is a rather thick rod of plastic and looks nothing like an MG34, so with this PzIV and PzIII all I've done is replace the MG barrels with one from the spares box and added a crew figures from AB.

In the case of the very nice Tiger I from Revell the kit hasn't needed anything more than replacing the original crew figure I had used (a spare one from a PSC set) with one from AB.

Lovely stuff.. I confess I had fun with late war camouflage too in 1/72

But yes, those look way better, and with markings obscured you won't feel guilty about proxying for 6th Guards or 7th Armoured..

I've wanted a Soviet DhSK 12.7mm and crew but have had trouble finding something. My best solution has been to use  set of AB crew for a Maxim and add it to a gun from SHQ.
