Armoured Fallschirmjäger platoon
« on: 06 August 2008, 04:41:58 PM »
Well then, unrelated to PM´s latest offerings (although not totally uninspired) I coughed up the resources and ordered some of the power armoured Paratroops made by Westwind. I already owned two with Machine Gun and two with flamers, so I ordered four of the "Regular Joes" plus two of those with the jet pack. I think I´ll do a platoon of some 20 powered armour guys, a squad of Pathfinders and one or two support units.

And I won´t show those until later tonight because the paint on the bases still needs to set.  ;D

Not being one to open up and leave the readers hanging *cough*SCW*cough*, I decided to show off the "Jet Mecha" which I ordered alongside. I was not really fond of the twin MGs in the chin, so I moved them to the arms (which had a useful hole there) and added a Funkmessgerät radar thingie in their place (plus a searchlight which I think I will cover in plastic).

For the paint scheme, I went for the early war splinter scheme, slightly modified for two colors (Vallejo Military Green and German Grey) plus some metallised areas. The pilot was done in Luftwaffe Blue uniform. After much cursing, I gave up trying to fit a completely glazed canopy, so I settled for an "half open" look similar to the practice of US dive bomber pilots in the Pacific theatre.

Decals come off a Dragon E-100 kit in 1/72nd scale.

As promised, I´ll add the first Fallschirmjäger Squad tonight. Cheerio and watch the skies!

Up to your normal excellent standard!!!! :o
I'm not a huge fan of the Jet Mecha but that is lovely. I'll have to get some of those Power-armored chaps aswell.

BTW: 20 Power-Armored troops........OUCH!!!!!

That sums it up pretty much. But I´ll spread the outlay over some months. I´ve already got 10, so only ten more to go. I´ll combine them with my existing BTD and Foundry Paras, so I´ll be able to get a game out of it pretty soon, I hope. Although I´ve thought of getting some British Paras or Commandos plus a Rat or two as well and then do a "Crete 1949" game over the remains of Atlantis... or better, situate the game on the Canary Islands and include my SCW Nationalists and Communist militia!

In game terms, well, I know it´s pretty close to power gaming, but I just loved the concept. Don´t know what rules I´ll use, so we´ll see.

Great figures - this range keeps getting better and better. The British armoured suit is great - if they do some more (e.g. with Vickers K gun) I could be tempted to make up a British commando force ....
