Malifaux Hired Swords
« on: August 06, 2014, 11:57:33 PM »
Did these as a recent commission. I don't really know what the whole Malifaux thing is about but these models are quite nice. Over all a good kit I'd say, although rather fiddly. Proper plastic too which is almost a novelty these days with so many manufacturers seeking some mythical grail like material that usually falls short of expectation (I'm currently working on a couple of models from Reaper's 'Bones' line... not good).

I've got a new camera which I'm gradually getting the hang of and I also decided to try out a different background for these photo's.

Probably bigger images on my blog.

Stunning

Indeed!!

I cannot believe that someone would send you 'Bones' figures to paint.... o_o o_o
If you are going to pay a top painter, buy top quality figures for him to paint.
That only makes sense, surely....?

That's top-notch paintjob on very (to me) un-interesting minis.

Wouldn't dare to use minis with that level of paint job for gaming.

I'll daub pretty much anything. I'm a paint whore after all.  ;)

I'd not seen the Bones plastic before so it's been an interesting learning curve. One of the models is actually a Bones version of a metal dark elf I painted up not too long ago so I've been able to compare the two.

Anyway, thanks for the comments everyone.  :)

They are effing lovely. Fantastic smooth surfaces and transitions on such tiny figures. If it isn't a trade secret what brushes did you use?

I'm currently using Rosemary & Co series 33 brushes. 3/0, 2/0 and 0 or 1 are my work horses but the 10/0 comes in handy at times (it's not as small as you might expect as the brushes are a little larger than most other brands).

Thanks mister. I was a die hard Windsor & Newton series 7 2/0 and 0 user but since I got back into the swashbuckling brush  for hire business I have noticed that the W&N are lots more expensive now and I'm not sure they are quite as worth the money anymore. Had a couple of iffy brushes amongst the last lot I bought and they don't seem to last as long as they once did.

Have heard others say good things about rosemary & co but never seen the evidence until now. So thanks for that, I will try some out.

what a lovely paintjob! You did a top notch work, even though i can see the softness of the miniatures behind right after that :(

I was quite pleased with the bones details. Not as good or sharp as the metal ones, definitely, but for their price they are rather nice, and really game-resistant.
However, i agree that giving them to you might be quite a waste of talent. :)

cheers
Jack

I think these look amazing!

Out of interest, are these your "best quality" commission level?

I was using Creative Models Kolinsky brushes but all of a sudden I started getting bad batches and brushes would be dead within a couple of days. The Rosemary & Co brushes were recommended to me and they've done me well recently. Good price too.
