I´m loving this work with the separated bricks James. :-*
Its a slower work but it gives a more realistic look.
I already have my own box of bricks to do a tower and a small wall area for a medieval watchtower. :D
You shape the bricks with your fingers before you glue them?

Will the walls be grey or red brick in colour? Will there be more roundish stones used at some points, as to show for later repair works on the wall and such?

Gunpowder era gun ports or arrowslits?

Tell us everything!  :D

I bash them about in my hands, yes. Looking forward to seeing what you're going to do  :)

Tell us everything!  :D

If I knew, I would tell you  lol It's going to grow as I make it. There are parameters of course and I have an idea in my head but you'll just have to wait and see (like me)  :)

The stone work will be dark grey and there will be parts that look different/like repairs etc.

cheers

James

Darn it! :D

Now you better work on this project and on this project alone, no other builds etc until this one is finished :)

Having done insulation foam buildings recently, the thought of hand-cutting an entire buildings worth of blocks and assembling a building this way fills me with admiration and envy!

Looking forward to seeing this castle progress.

Nice!

Given the base board, sure looks like you are going to have to pack a lot of stuff into a fairly small area.

Looking forward to your next update.

How about reprimanding him of not using slightly diluted spackle as mortar between the foam bricks?  ;)

Hmm... now that I have said, yes, why didn't you?  ::)  ;) I think I have to try it out myself at some point.

Thanks again chaps  :)

Nope, not gonna happen  ;D

Like your thinking Jim :)

That's always a good sign  ;)

Given the base board, sure looks like you are going to have to pack a lot of stuff into a fairly small area.

There's plenty of precedence for that in many English and Scottish castles  :)

diluted spackle

That sounds dirty  o_o

The walls are getting higher (amd they will get a lot higher yet) and I think I'll be building all of them around a central core of the blue foam.

Also got a colour test for the stone work, albeit a small one  :)

cheers

James

Looking better and better. The culvert looks excellent too. I'm tempted to take the leap and try something like this meself. (wanted to build a scale model of Carrickfergus castle for years)

I have an idea of the sturdiness of the foam, but how is it chopped up small and glued back together? Fine, I take it?

It's looking castlelicious!  ;D

The result of colour test looks very good, hopefully the poor knight pictured was holding his breath while the pic was taken  lol

Carrickfergus looks to be a fairly simple build  8)

The walls, when left on their own, can be pushed slightly out of shape but they do return to their original postion but in multiple layers and with a backing peice they are fine  :)

cheers

James
