Lovely work, Phil!

I really like the way you painted the back of the banner. That was something I pondered for quite a while... how to do the backs. Yours is really, really nice! Very nice command and infantry unit, like mtn, I like the Roman elements of the infantry. I think the Arthurian double-dragon banner works extremely well with the Goths.

I'm still pondering and trying to research the symbolism of my Christianized Ostrogoths. I found a bit of information on Arian Christianity which suggested that they did not use the cross or crucifix as their belief system saw that as a symbol of execution. They suggested that it would be like a cult today using the electric chair as a religious symbol.

Of course, all or almost all bishop and priest minis are sporting the cross and I wanted to add a Bishop Ulfilas to my high command group but still stuck on Arian symbolism. I suppose the Chi-Ro works but my Goth standard bearer has a large banner of Christ. I may stick a Chi-Ro on top of the staff pole and give Ulfilas a Chi-Ro on top of a walking staff while shaving off the cross on his chest.

Do you have any ideas?

My Goths are firmly of the pagan persuasion, but looking at the various symbolism online I would go with the Chi-Rho.

Goths to go, completed the eighth unit, enough for an outing against Rome on Monday, using Neil Thomas's Ancient and Medieval rules.

Today was the first outing for the collection, we used Neil Thomas's Ancient And Medieval Wargaming rules for the action, a write up of which can be found on my blog for those with an interest in such things.

You have the start of two fine armies there Phil. Keep adding to it as and when you can. Great game today too I thought, despite the dice!
