Board game, bendy plastic... Hmm. :?

At least they'll be cheaper than Knight Minis.

Mannequin Skywalker. Very good. Need to use that sometime when I'm feeling very nerdy. Which is quite often.

I've got their Gears of War set and the figure plastic is pretty good. A bit bendy, but only a problem on very thin bits like gun barrels. Great detail though. Definitely quality miniatures. If these are the same quality, it'll be a must-have!

I still have hundreds of the WotC figures, but I bought collections on eBay and snapped up a lot of bargain characters.  I'm missing things like speeder bikes that were rare and went for silly prices at auction.  So it's nice to see heavy blasters and probots in the base set.

I think FFG see 28mm as having crossover potential with minis games.  Battlelore 2 went to that scale with the minis last year after the original game was closer to 20mm.

So yeah, I have high hopes!

They're also pretty good with the expansion pack schedule for other games.  Descent 2, on which they have explicity based this game, has a good range of campaign sets, generic expansions and individual bad guys.

I'm still using the old WEG ( i passed WOC) it would be a really nice surpirse for me if the scale, as you said, become more 20 mm than 28mm.  A big Hurrah! for the 1st that can provide us a comparison pic!.

I confess I'm not a big Star Wars geek (just an average one) but games like this with mixed series bug me.  lol  I'd have rather seen a dozen storm troopers etc.

It should be in FFG's usual 28mm-ish scale; that means, it's between 28mm and 25mm, with realistic proportions and in bendy plastic, but pre-glued multi-part for larger figures and great detail. These are not "Heroic Scale" so they look rather slight next to the usual stuff that's out there.
A friend of mine saw these at GenCon, and said they looked more like 30-35mm HeroClix size. While I don't prefer this size, one benefit would be better compatibility with the previous collectible minis. Of course, that means they'd be even worse next to the old WEG minis, but you cant win 'em all.

I can't wait until the box contents are revealed properly so I can go into concurrent cardiac arrest and froth mode. Good times ahoy!

I get that some people might be wondering about the mix in the pics, but unless I'm mistaken those are all just renders and at 100 yankee-bucks the box will contain at least as much plastic toys as Descent. Which this is, btw... a re-skinned Descent. In spaaaace. Love it!

Right, so... a bit of thread necromancy.

My copy arrived today... I was always going to get this...  :D

Very first thoughts:

Figures look about the right-ish size for 30-32mm at first glance, too big alongside the likes of Hasslefree.  Plastic is stiffer than the usual "boardgame plastic" and has nice crisp detail on the pieces - pretty close to styrene.  I managed to break the gun barrels on the walker slotting them in, so... not so bendy!  Doofus  lol  Luke and Vader in the base game.

There's been some discussion about the price of the expansion packs - for the first wave, all the stats are in the core box along with card tokens for Han, Chewie and others.  Nice move.

Rules look shortish - core of 16 pages including a tutorial and an introduction to the campaign game.  There's a separate 28-page reference booklet for working out more complex rules interactions.

Components are up to the usual high FFG standard.  The dice are very like the custom dice for the RPG - all D6, but different colours and symbols on the dice.  Tons and tons of equipment, mission and special ability/move cards.  Cardstock map pieces are sturdy and interlock, and the grid is quite unobtrusive.

Skirmish booklet is 8 pages - really just how to choose a force and set up, plus a couple of scenarios on a single map.

Campaign is the meat of the game - 30 scenarios including branching storyline and side quests.  Impressive amount of play in here.

For your £80 there is a lot of stuff in there, and a lot of gaming.  Minis look sweet, and adding in the stat cards for the Wave 1 expansions was a nice touch.

Will get some comparison photos with the WotC plastics and other minis up in the light tomorrow.
