[Kickstarter] Battlesystems Fantasy Dungeon Terrain
« on: August 23, 2014, 11:31:02 AM »
Forgive me if this has already been posted, but I could not find any threads.

Battle systems have launched their campaign for a cardboard fantasy dungeon. It funded in 13 minutes!

I am not normally into cardboard terrain. But this looks really god and usefull for a lot of stuff. I'm in for a dungeon.

As cardboard goes, their terrain does look quite good. I recall being fairly impressed at the sci-fi version offered last year or so.

Still, I've completely sworn off card terrain.  Just doesn't do it for me anymore.

I don't have $100 available for this KS.   :'(

Nice terrain, especially for Cardboard.

Gracias,

Well... if nothing else they held true to their promises and got their Sci Fi Terrain out to the fans.

They have good repore with their backers and listen as well.

If you are interested in this terrain, I think you can have confidence of a great product that will make it to your playing table.

I agree this stuff looks great and puts any other card/paper terrain to shame. The BattleSystem guys have a good reputation so this KS should be a real success, certainly started that way!

Only problems with this terrain (imho) are that it takes a long time to set up (compared to using Dwarven Forge or ITAR'S Workshop type scenery) and it's construction does not suit replicating the dungeon maps found in off the shelf RPG adventure modules.

As a basis for fantasy skirmish games like Fantasy Necromunda, Mordheim, D&DM etc it is superb but for rpg or rpg lite games I am less enthusiastic about it.

Yep, if I wasn't invested in DF stuff this is the route I'd go.  I' likely build it in big sections -- maybe even glue them together so it wouldn't be completely modular.  I think it all looks fantastic - I do think they've painted the seems on the stuff, but I have no problem with that.  The board in the videos looks simply lovely.  I'd game on it in a heartbeat.

Personally, I detest the type of Kickstarter that has nothing but early birds, and then starts to put the same pledge rewards up at an increasingly expensive price. I just look down the list and think - 'Oh, so I'm paying £150 for £74 of stuff, cos I saw it a day late...' I'm aware that the current level of £150 is still being billed as a bargain, but I still fill short-changed. And as it's now the only pledge level available, I'll pass! I had the same grumble with Shadows over Brimstone. It's like when superstores forget to take off the cheaper price tag from a product, and just sticker the same item with a massive price hike...

Huh!?

The 'standard' pledge is £78 where you get the basic dungeon. And that is not limited.

Yes, I thought you are mis-reading this. The early bird was only £73, so a few quid off but not too bad now.

same for me! :)

The only think i should warn you is that printed stuff tend to look better in photos than in flesh... basically, you're looking at a picture of a picture. But i'm sure that even in flesh those will look great.
It's not the product for me, but it's an impressive idea and realization. I've shared it on facebook, i suggest everyone to do the same, to encourage this well-done kickstarters. :)

Cheers
Jack

Thought they were all gone - maybe I am misreading. If so, I redact my accusation :-)

Yeah, just double checked - two levels of early bird, with the standard pledge sandwiched between two different 'all gone' levels. I scrolled past too quickly - feel silly now  lol

Kicking myself for not getting in on the scifi one, so I'm in.  Looks like a reasonably priced and sturdy set of dungeon terrain.

Good to see they have a 2x2 "mousemat" base this time.

I have jumped in. I also regretted not getting the sci-fi terrain.

Indeed.

I wish the Sci Fi one had had a gaming mat. But just goes to show that they are "learning" and getting better at what they do.

I really felt I was not only getting a great product but also helping out a new company, which is what KS is supposedly all about.
