Path of Shadows

A question came up in our game last night about the use of Path of Shadows by the Servants of Ra which prompted some discussion afterwards. Basically can you use Path of Shadows to move through the walls of a building either to move from one room to another or to move outside?

In our game Professor Abir was hiding in a large tomb and wanted to avoid his pursuers by using Path of Shadows to exit via the back wall to the outside. We decided he couldn't do that because the rule says that the mystic must begin and end his movement in an open space. So he had to take his chances and make a run for it through the front entrance. However, we did wonder afterwards how "open space" was defined.

Does it mean literally being out in the open air, so you could use the ability to move through a garden wall but not from the garden into a house or vice versa as we ruled? Or can you use it to move from say one large room to another or in and out of a building, but not suddenly pop up in a cupboard! If the latter we would require the mystic to know that there was an open space within 12" which he could move to before invoking the power.

Any advice or comments would be welcome.

I think in this case "open Space" means large enough to fit the base of the figure in.

I think that "open space" means not within terrain. Buildings are terrain.

And the answer is (rips open golden envelope)....

A space large enough to hold the figure's base!   

The idea was that the figure could not end up fully or partially inside a solid object.

So, make all your characters dwarf/gnome/halfling/midget and base them on 15 mm circles... you're Golden...

Oh, wait, this is VSF, not fantasy...

Thanks for the clarification Craig. That makes the Servants of Ra even sneakier which will appeal to the player using them in our campaign.
