Stepehen welcome to this thread..
thanks to Gringo and his work of love , a period which is one of my first wargame loves (I'm Italian) has come to light among our wargame community....i noticed that you mentioned Trevelyan and i can add also D Mac Smith which unfortunatly we are recently missing...it's funny because everything i read from those 2 British authors is greatly better than everything written concerning this period by Italian ones..from a general researcher point of view and also from a military point of view...our narrative is, practically always, written in a clumsy way and celebrative..so practical useless ...above all with no idea of cross reference research trough various opposing or better foreign sources...i detected the same thing for other periods of history like the Roman one which is also one my favourite...Gibson and US rearcher Lutwak works on Roman Empire are unreachable by our amatorial italian supposed to be professorial historians
