Sikh Platoon 28mm
« on: 17 September 2014, 09:14:46 PM »
After starting on these chaps in the summer, I finally finished basing my Sikh platoon last week.
Here's the before and after shots of the whole platoon.  I used my usual mix of Desert Yellow spray undercoat plus Army Painter strong tone + some highlighting and drybrushing, taking about 20 mins per figure.  The figures are mostly Perry plastics, with a few Valiant Miniatures chucked in for variety (the Valiant ones are allegedly 1/72 but actually closer to 1/60, and the kneeling figures don't look out of place with the Perry 1/56).

NCOs and a rifleman.

I used the metal Perry Sikh heads which are a brilliant accessory, very easy to attach to the plastic bodies with a scalpel, 1mm drill bit and a spot of superglue.  Interestingly, the figure on the left is an earlier conversion of mine using one of the plastic LRDG heads from the Perry box.  It's a bit smaller than the metal ones, though I had not realised until I saw the close-up photo, so don't think it matters too much!

The CO, radio operator and 2" mortar team.  These are all Valiant models with Perry Sikh heads; the CO has been given a Perry helmet to bring him into line.

Here's the three rifle sections. I wanted a 'knives out' look for the Sikhs so asked around for spare bayonets; my chum Wayne is only making LRDG with his box, so he kindly contributed all his spares.

Section no 3 are giving covering fire (this was a good use for all the kneeling and lying down bodies I had left over!)

Here's part 2:
Boys AT rifle and sniper.

More sniping.  As this chap is headed for my Keren layout, I felt it was appropriate to mount him on a rock.

This is the sapper team, which will hopefully prove useful in games of Chain of Command.  Looking at the shot I realised I have splashed some paint up his arm while basing - back to the painting table! >:(

3" mortar team for support.  These are all Valiant minis with Perry heads.  I know the Perrys make a perfectly nice metal mortar, but you get 4 in a box with the Valiant models and it would be a shame not to use them!

Last but not least, the Bren carrier team, reminding me I must paint up their transport!

Absolutely awesome.  Such an incredibly fresh breath of air from the "my Normandy Germans..." nausea.  Thanks!

Brilliant work on the minis! Especially the sapper team with the shoveling fella is brilliant. Certainly something different from most of the stuff you see normally!

Methinks they look wonderful. I particularly like the contrast between the shirts and the shorts and turbans  8)
