Trenchworx Rolls Royce Armored Car - Finished!
« on: October 30, 2014, 08:36:50 PM »
I received my Kickstarter package from Trenchworx last week. I received three FT-17s to support my Marines and one Rolls Royce Armored Car because I though it looked cool. I thought I would show off a little progress on my Bulletproof Ghost. I think this is a great kit and well worth the price. Hopefully they will finish the fulfilling the Kickstarter soon and I can buy another one of these little gems.

And for the complete look here are some links back to my blog:

A couple of mis-steps on my part cutting sprues but otherwise it went together really well. Just dry fit the parts first before you decide something is sprue and find out later its one of the locator pins. The flash was not extensive at no more than I would expect on any resin kit. The detail is very sharp on this one.

I was finally able to start getting some paint on the Rolls. I want to have it ready to enter at ReaperCon at the end of April. Here are a couple of pictures.

At this stage I'm working in some dark undertones with Reaper HD Burnt Umber

And here is the base coat of Vallejo Model Air Middlestone.

The camoflage is hard edged so the next step is applying some masks for the next color.

A nice start. I agree, parts look sharp.

Another night at the airbrush booth. Not terribly happy with the results at this point. I'll go in with the brush and see how it goes. Then I'll decided whether to strip it down and start over.

I had really resisted painting this with a brush but in the end it might just be best to strip it and hand point everything but the basecoat or make sure I have the masking material that I need to do this . More pictures on my blog:

Hope the brush fixes the (minor) issues. Will allow the harder edge required in the different faces of the model.

Just as a side note the Kickstarter was finished last year and I received delivery on mine back in November. The Rolls is available on the Trenchworx website along all the other WWI AFVs that they did. I feel better about this work after attacking it one of my filberts. I'm not completely happy with it yet, it definitely still needs some more work on the camo before I move on but I'm happier. I did get the wheels started, all white!

A couple of pictures one from the start and one from the end.

Cameras really do show all the flaws.

I made some more progress today. I'm hoping to have the whole thing finished this weekend, but I'm not sure I will be able to get in anymore work today. I took a final bit of work on the camo, quite happy with that. Worked on the spoked wheels and after the filter was dry went in and did some chipping. Pretty pleased with how that turned out.

Another day of work. I used enamel washes and rust effects from both AK Interactive nad MiG Productions. These take longer to dry than my acrylics do so I had some time on my hands to catch up on the movie I was watching.

First applied a dark brown wash from AK Interactive

Then a very light rust wash from MiG Productions

I realized at about this point that I should have applied some chipping to the large chocolate brown camouflage. I'll have to catch that on the next session.

No pictures tonight. I messed up the last layer of paint. If this was going to strictly be a gaming pieces I would have just finished it off. Since I was going to enter in a paint competition at the end of April, I'm in the process of stripping it down. I suppose this gives me an opportunity to fix somethings that I didn't like but its still a bit depressing.
