Assembling a Robotech Tactics Destroid.
« on: 31 October 2014, 09:06:54 PM »
I just got my first rewards from the Robotech Kickstarter and have started building the models. They're not awful, but they're not amazing. More on my blog:

I was undecided about the robotech kickstarter... and your little review has made me feel better about not getting on board.

Having seen the assembled Defender, it would really bother me that there were so many gaps and I would have to fill them. On one or two, it wouldn't have been an issue but on a whole set... they would have been left in the box.

The Defender's guns wrong, the twin cannon should be mounted vertically (one on top of other) not horizontally.
Looks like they screwed up the design!

The Defender's guns look correct in the instruction sheet, perhaps assembled wrong?

I have yet to receive my Robotech stuff.  I was never keen of the absurd number of parts used for most of the relatively small kits.  I'll see how enthusiastic I am about assembling them.

I never really went in for Robotech, but seeing these I hope I might just be able to pick a few up at a decent price. They might not be the best but they have a fun factor to their look.

Not assembled wrong, the company has done the model wrong.  For some reason the company has rotated the gun barrels around.

You sure? Looking at the bits the plug the guns are attached to and their baseplate appear to be square, so I would assume both orientations are possible? I could be wrong tough. But as mentioned the instructions doe appear to have them correctly oriented.

Definitely looks like it's on a square peg so the guns could be put in either way round.
So many projects..... so little time.......

Yep,  assembled wrong.  Better design to model would not allow that to happen though.

Have to see if any get to UK.

Still waiting for mine to arrive. I kind of lost interest 6 months down the line (when they "should" have been delivered!).

Yes, I put the guns on wrong!  >:(

(I haven't had this much feedback since critique in art school.)

I cut the guns off and one of them shot across the room and has completely disappeared. So of the three destroids I've built, none of them are usable. Partially this is my own fault, partially it's badly designed kits.

I think I'm switching to the Zentraidi for a while.

I saw some of your work at the Crooked Dice booth at Crisis today, and I must say, it's even more beautiful in person.  Your work is just amazing!

Now the OP of the thread, I too had some misgivings that I didnt jump on board, but knowing that they dont scale at all with CBT and that they have SO many parts..... yikes.  I still want a CBT Marauder, but that will be more of a one off rather than for a game....

And a very nice review mate.  I commend you for your excellent attitude and not getting frustrated.  I look forward to seeing what you do with the kits! :D

This is from the RTT forum, and it looks like the kits ae not half bad with some paint and care.  I cant see if the seams are there as well, if they are filled or not at all, but the models look promising.
