Martian AAR - Red-on-Red
« on: 01 November 2014, 06:18:05 PM »
As a change to our usual games, Dr De'Ath and I tried a Martian-on-Martian game, with a minimum of ranged weapons present. The one thing for certain was that it was going to be a bloody affair.

The Raas-Al-Khanoot trader have allied themselves with the British Martian Trade and Exploration Company and their emmisaries are now seeking to draw other Martian clans into their alliance with their Earther allies. One such delegation of emmisaries is seeking to cut a deal with the Ku-Ni-Lingaas clan of Sky Martians. The negotiations have come to the notice of the Raas-Taa-Farri clan, who intend to disrupt the negotiations and kill (or preferably capture) the trader emmisary.

Our story starts with the traders and Ku-Ni-Lingaas camped in an abandoned village. It is dawn and there are stirrings in the undergrowth.

The Raas-Taa-Farri sneaked up on the village, but one of the rooftop guards sounded the alarm, only to be silenced by throwing spears as the clan warriors forced the back door of the first building open.

A bloody fight ensued between the attacking warriors and the occupants of the building. The rest of the village failed to respond to the alarm, allowing the remaining Raas-Taa-Farri to reach other buildings. However, a complication arose as a Ku-Ni-Lingaas hunting party returned to the village from the ideal direction to assist the defenders.

The defenders of the first building took heavy casualties and the returning hunting party were forced to take cover as one of their number was killed by a throwing spear. Meanwhile the trader leader was discovered in the other large building.

Although the attackers managed to finish off the warriors in the first building, a charge by the returning hunting party caused heavy casualties in return. At the other building the trader leader leading the defence of the building was wounded and pushed back inside. However, the leader of Ku-Ni-Lingaas and his bodyguards burst out of the other door to counterattack.

The hunting party broke the first group of attackers, while the bloody fighting continued around the second building. A new twist occured when a pair of the traders' Aak-nak askaris emerged from one of the smaller huts and shot down one of the attackers with their Earther rifles.

The bloodbath continued. All was in the balance, with the Ku-Ni-Lingaas leader killed and the trader leader being knocked out by the Raas-Taa-Farri leader. However only two Raas-Taa-Farri now remained standing. Would they be able to escape with the now captive trader leader?

The last standing Ku-Ni-Lingaas warriors caught up with the pair of Raas-Taa-Farri dragging their captive.

A long combat ensued in which the warriors on both sides demonstrated the best of Sky Martian attack and defensive skills, However, finally to the superior combat skills of the Raas-Taa-Farr won the day. The trader askaris could only look on helplessly as their leader was dragged away into the undergrowth.

As predicted, this was a very bloody game ....

Thanks. The buildings are OOP Snapdragon 'not-Tatooine' buildings.

I love the concept and the buildings.
I was trying to find some type of paper buildings for my Martian Campaign and I wasn't able to find and these look great.

Very nice - I didn't get around to collect and paint Martians, but it looks like it's good fun with some serious story telling.

Very nice - I didn't get around to collect and paint Martians, but it looks like it's good fun with some serious story telling.

There are currently two storylines going on in parallel for our Mars setting. The first is the adventures of Captain Softlove (games involving Malamute, Jimbibbly and Dr De'Ath) and the second involves the men of the British Martian Trade and Exploration Exploitation Company (games involving Dr De'Ath and I).

Expect more reports as the secrets of Mars' past are uncovered and the native opposition to the Earthers becomes more coordinated ...

Great looking game.  How did you make the houses/buildings?  They really look the part of primitive-alien.
This is my boomstick!
