Looking for bandits 28mm
« on: November 11, 2014, 12:23:13 AM »
After seeing the RBG brigands on kickstarter, and being unable to afford anything of the sort, I've been looking for suitable miniatures preferably from a single manufacturer that would suit a small bandit gang. 8-15 minis. I've been thinking Westwind Nordvolk, buying a few of their packs, even though they come in 10's. They have some nice variety and even some angry armed peasants which I'm keen on having as some easy beats in the gang. Any other ideas other than that. I'm mostly after 28mm to the eye type but would definitely consider larger (as I think the Nordvolk are larger than that)
Cheers

LOTR Rangers of Gondor and Dunedain perhaps? or maybe the Pirates of Umbar?

I'm not sure if the lavest Red Box kickstarter is over and done by now, but it has several bandit sculpts in it that are worth looking into.

Hey beefcake, hate to be contentious but $8 for new metal is not bad. All the RBG miniatures I have are of the best quality and well worth the price. It can also be hard to find true 28mm, at least at the level of detail that you get from RBG. Anyway, hope you find what you are looking for. Perhaps GW Free Company Militia?

Perhaps some of the gripping beast range might work? They are true 28mm, and have a wide variety of dark ages and medieval types - maybe some Saxons with 2 handed spears, cut to length, would make some figures with quaterstaffs? Vikings with hand axes etc...

It's not GW prices but my budget has been slashed a huge amount due to house renovations, plus exchange rates always make things more expensive for me and postage from the US is a killer, almost double to ship over the pacific compared to shipping from the UK. So I'm looking for the cheaper option here :)
I'll have a look at the Gripping Beast stuff.
Cheers

Claymore Casting's Ribauds might fit the bill (in the Islemen and Highlanders section); they're suitably villainous-looking and great sculpts to boot.

If your setting's more dark age, then the Beast should cater beautifully.

Reaper has some nice bandits, as well as DSG http://dgsgames.com/

Ah, yes, how daft of me...need to learn to read topic descriptions before throwing myself into the fray!
Anyways, I would second the Claymore Castings, their scottish spearmen look suitably scruffy and the ribaulds are also nice additions, although I haven't had a chance to look at them up close.
The spearmen paint up quite nicley though.
If you're after something a bit less medieval, Warlord Games Irish Brigade models are very good. I painted up a unit some time ago, and they all look like they've lived off the road for some time!

Dig deeper into old glory, maybe there ghost line. I am sure there is some historical soldiers that look like bandits. Dark age stuff, maybe Turkish or polish medieval? Good price for lots of figs and 28mm.

Through out history a sizable portion of bandits every where were old out of work soldiers left to fend for them selves after the last great campaign.
