Armored Apes/Monkeys?
« on: 30 November 2014, 08:40:07 PM »
I got a wild hair in my tangent this morning and thought it would be really cool to have some baboons or monkeys in armor with spears/swords/bows... a skirmish size force would do.
I seems an obvious trope, and there are loads of fantasy illustrations of chimps/baboons/monkeys in armor... but all I could find of miniatures were gorillas... gorillas in Roman armor... gorillas in scifi power armor... mechanical gorillas.. but nothing with monkeys.

Does anyone have a line on some smaller militarized apes?

Well, this is the image and blog article that's been rattling in my head: http://greenskeletongamingguild.blogspot.com/2010/04/simian-saturday-war-chimps.html

Not much armor... these just have helmets... and, importantly, they look like chimps... not some man/chimp like the Planet of the Apes movies.

Lance & Laser Glorantha range has Baboons but no armour. they're now sold by Armourcast I think.

Someone makes miniatures of gorillas dressed as Roman legionaires, they are awesome for lostworlds/pulp games, but I can't remember the company  :(
edit: Black orc miniatures!!!
but looks like their site is under works and the online shop is not working

maybe a clever Lafer can point you to some distributor or reseller

I was going to suggest looking at the Fanticide flying monkeys but at the moment I can't seem to find a link to the range...

I hadn't even thought of the flying monkeys... but they're pretty much just what I'm looking for... minus the wings.
Are the Eureka FMs the same as the Fantacide ones? They look pretty similar to me.

The Eureka ones (which I beleve are indeed the same), just have two small holes in the back for the wings which are very easy to fill.

They are one and the same. Eureka also does these:

Along with some less useful boiler suit apes:

(Though the gorilla could be carrying a cannon, etc.)
