Saracen Army & Crusader Army Finished (20/10)
« on: December 02, 2014, 02:17:50 PM »
Hi Folks
Now that my desert terrain is all but finished (link here for those who haven't seen it)

http://shedwars.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/desert-boards-finally-complete.html

I thought it was about time I started on my Arab army (going for a range of styles so please think Hollywood not Historical). I have bought over 100 Cavalry and 200 Infantry so far - about 2/3rds are in this shot..

As you can see from the photo and on the blog I have made a good start on the painting (base colours only at the moment and no finished units)

All the details on the blog

http://shedwars.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/building-saracen-army-part-1.html

Aim to finish it all by Spring !!

Quite an ambitious project!  They look pretty impressive, especially the boys in black.
Now what is this whole life of mortals but a sort of comedy, in which the various actors, disguised by various costumes and masks, walk on and play each one his part, until the manager waves them off the stage?

Excellent start there Giles, my force has been put to one side for a bit to keep things 'mixed up'.

Tried to post on the blog but I don't think it worked so I'll comment here.

The heavy cav figs you have are Musketeer Miniatures Ghulam cavalry. I have 10 on my desk right now, they'd have been started were it not for some pesky martians.

Do you know where I can see some mogol to arab conversions? I bought some myself as it seems like an obvious conversion, especially as they were both sculpted by the same person. Would be nice to see some that have already been done though

Haven't seen any conversions but I figured they should work.....hopefully

Thanks for the answer to the ghulams...I picked them up from the bazaar here on laf

Should work perfectly well for Turkish region horse archers and like you I'm keeping my force deliberately vague with troops drawn from all over the Caliphate :)

Swap the heads and quivers and you're pretty much done.

I love this time period. I'm working on some Teutonic Knights right now and have been figuring on what I should do for the Saracens. But these are gorgeous. I like 'em a lot.
