Zombicide as a table-top game
« on: December 18, 2014, 04:42:09 PM »
I noticed a post on TMP asking about the suitability of playing Zombicide as a table-top miniatures game rather than a miniatures board game. Makes me wonder if anyone here plays it this way. Does it convert to table-top or is it not worth the bother?

Just curious.

I've played the board game a few times. Don't see why it wouldn't work on a table (with or without squares).

Might have to come up with a conversion for movement, but the other mechanics should translate just fine.

It can easily be used for All Things Zombies to create an instant urban area.
The minis and tokens are very useful too.
Each tile represent a zone for the generation of PEFs and zeds.

I think you would need a mechanism for combat too, since it is by zone for targeting and fighting as well ranging.

I've used plenty of the physical components with ATZ rules (can't beat the price for decent humans and zombie figures) but didn't carry over any of the Zombicide mechanics which was my understanding of what the OP was asking about.

As paracat said I don't see why it couldn't go 3D on the tabletop with some house rules.  I guess my qestion would be why?  Why go to go to the trouble to convert the Zombicide rules when there are a number of pre-made rules sets out there (a few of them are even free).

One issue for many gamers with using the Zombicide rules going full 3D would be the importance of building interior zones for zombie spawning and searching.   You would need a lot of buildings with multiple rooms.
